INDIA. Mumbai: India’s cutting-edge defense system and an assortment of weapons and vehicles are on display in a Defence exhibition being held by the ‘Atharva Foundation’ in association with the Armed Forces at Borivali in North Mumbai.
Maharashtra Governor Ramesh Bais inaugurated the two-day exhibition organized at Kora Kendra Ground on Saturday. On occasion, the governor presented laptops to the daughters of martyrs from the Armed Forces.
BJP MP Gopal Shetty, Chairman of Atharva Foundation, and MLA Sunil Rane, Convenor of the Exhibition Colonel (Retd) Sudhir Raje, serving and retired officers and jawans of the Armed Forces and citizens were present.
The exhibition has been drawing heavy crowds with a huge field gun greeting them near its entrance. Other accessories and equipment include Battle Field Surveillance Radar (BFSR)-ELM 2129 (Israel), Radio Set Star (R S Star) VMK Ii (India), and Operation Rhino undertaken during a crackdown on ULFA activities in Assam.
The visitors are exposed to the Passive Night Vision Goggles (PNVG) 102A (which offer vision with one image intensifier tube to be used for recce, surveillance, map reading, etc.), The 51 mm Light Mortar (that can be carried and fired by one man), 84 mm Rocket launcher (Sweden) and 30 mm AGS-30 Automatic Grenade Launcher (Russia).
Also, there are 7.62 mm Sako sniper rifles (Finland), 7.62 mm Dragunov, super rifles, MP9 Submachine guns, Negev NG-5 (5.56×45mm) light machine guns, SIG sauer 716 Assault rifles, 5.56×45 mm INSAS light machine gun, Telescopic Day Light Sight (TDLS) 5.56 mm Rifle and 5.56×45m INSAS Rifle.
The curious visitors are provided with information about rope climbing, Jungle survival, section tent layout, Operation room, etc., and minute details of the weapons and their use by the jawans of the Assam Regiment deployed at the venue. There is a huge replica of INS Vikrant and also a stall of the Indian Air Force.
The sessions of story narration by ex-army personnel are also being organized. Havildar Madhusudan Surve, Subedar Santosh Rale, Colonel P K Kapoor, Naik Digendar Kumar, Corporal Jyoti Nirala, and Manoj Kumar Sinha have been some of the speakers.
The Atharva Foundation is also donating ambulances to the Arunachal Pradesh and Assam Rajya Sainik Boards.
