CANADA: F1 driver Daniel Ricciardo has expressed his desire for a remarkable comeback to a Red Bull seat, calling it the “fairytale ending” to his illustrious career.
Daniel Ricciardo, who currently serves as the reserve driver for Red Bull, has admitted publicly for the first time that his goal is to race alongside Max Verstappen once again.
After a year on the sidelines following his departure from McLaren, the Australian driver is determined to showcase his talents and stake a claim for a return to the senior Red Bull team.
Daniel Ricciardo, who secured seven victories for Red Bull before joining Renault in 2019, was swiftly enlisted by team principal Christian Horner as the reserve driver for Verstappen and Sergio Perez this season.
Dissatisfied with his performance at McLaren alongside Lando Norris, Ricciardo chose to end his association with the team earlier than planned.
Reports suggest that he would consider driving for AlphaTauri, previously known as Toro Rosso, in the 2024 season to regain his place on the F1 grid and remind top teams of his exceptional abilities, potentially paving the way for a Red Bull return in 2025.
In an interview, Daniel Ricciardo revealed his aspirations for his future in F1, expressing his longing to return to the Red Bull team. “This, for me, would be like a fairytale,” he confessed when asked about reclaiming a Red Bull seat.
The change in Ricciardo’s tone signifies his renewed determination to return to the racetrack. Previously, he had mentioned being content with a more relaxed approach to his career.
However, his recent experiences as Red Bull’s reserve driver have reignited his passion for racing. Ricciardo has expressed his enjoyment of working in the F1 simulator, which is typically considered a tedious aspect of a driver’s duties.
He has also declared that he has mentally moved on from the disappointments of the previous two seasons, clearly indicating his readiness to compete again.
While Sergio Perez is already under contract for the upcoming season, Ricciardo’s best chance within the Red Bull stable would be with AlphaTauri.
Nevertheless, this move demonstrates Ricciardo’s determination to return to the spotlight and prove his worth again. With his sights set on a sensational return to Red Bull, Daniel Ricciardo aims to add a magical chapter to his F1 career.
