NIGERIA: The President of Dangote Industries Ltd, Alhaji Aliko Dangote has made known plans to enlarge human capacity at its Refinery Project site, from 40,000 personnel to 57,000 in the coming months.

This is contained in a statement signed by Group Head of Corporate Communications, Dangote Group, Mr Anthony Chiejina, in Lagos.

According to Dangote, the refinery produces 650,000 barrels-per-day at the refinery project located at Ibeju Lekki area of Lagos State.

“This is the ratio of about three Nigerians to one refugee, with a projected extent for neighbourhood genius with the new additions,” Dangote said.

Reason for the construction of the refinery

Dangote said the refinery task remained the largest in Africa, and one of the biggest in the world, adding that many Nigerians have been getting large education as a way to build in-country capacity.

Dangote said that the construction of the refinery was informed by his wish to help the Federal Government address the lingering trouble of petroleum products importation.

Dangote described the refinery challenge as an investment that would radically change the economies of countries in sub-Saharan Africa.

“It makes me terrible to see a nation as large and ingenious as Nigeria with a high population, importing all its petroleum products, so we decided it is time to tackle this menace.

“It is not the government’s fault alone to tackle the venture of petroleum products importation in Nigeria. No, we have to collaborate with the government to handle the trouble of petroleum importation.

“Nigerians can compete anywhere in the world, in time of electrical, welding, mechanical erection etc. We have genuinely created a large capacity,” Dangote stated.

Dangote emphasized the need for Nigeria to shift interest from crude oil export and diversify the economy.

“If we do not now cross from crude oil to something else, we will have issues as a country. This is one of the things that I took upon myself to help address,” Dangote said.
