UNITED STATES: Dakota Johnson, the Hollywood star famous for her role in 50 Shades of Grey and Suspiria (2018), is in talks to play the role of Madame Web. According to Deadline, the studio may have discovered a lead for the future film.
Following the great success of Spider-Man: No Way Home, Sony is keen to expand its universe, which already contains Venom (2018), Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021), and the upcoming Morbius, starring Jared Leto in the titular role. A Kraven the Hunter film starring Aaron Taylor-Johnson is also in the works at Sony. This points to a new entry in the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters, which might feature Dakota Johnson in the upcoming film.
The Hollywood reporter also added S. J Clarkson would direct that movie. The screenplay was handed over by screenwriters Matt Sazama and Burk Sharpless. They are well-known for their work in the Netflix hit show Lost in Space 2018-2021. They’ve also worked on the upcoming film Morbius.
Is this merely a rumor?
Deadline has previously revealed a great deal about the actors and plot. That includes Robert Pattinson as Batman, which has proven to be true. So it is, without a doubt, not a rumor.
Who is Madame Web?
Madame Web, a.k.a. Cassandra Webb, was initially depicted as an elderly lady with vast knowledge of the spider-verse, which connects variants of Spider-Man across the multiverse. She initially debuted in The Amazing Spider-Man #210. She originally appeared as an ally who assisted Spider-Man in locating a kidnap victim.
Her power includes Telepathy, Clairvoyance, Precognition, and gifted intellect. She has the ability to astral project just like Doctor Strange. Madame Web is cybernetically linked to a life support system resembling a spider web, which stands to benefit her body. The system also contains a robotic arm that her husband designed.
Which version of Madame Web Dakota Johnson might play?
Although the original Madame Web was quite old, she passed her abilities to Julia Carpenter when she died in the comics, who was the second Spider-Woman and then became the second Madame Web. She made her debut in Secret Wars #6. So it would be rather suitable if the original Madame Web passed her authority on to the younger version of Madame Web, which Dakota Johnson will play.
Sony pictures initially teased the appearance of Madame Web, and now it’s been confirmed that Dakota Johnson as Madame Web will join the Sony Universe of Marvel Characters.
