INDIA. Mumbai: The last rites of Cyrus Mistry (54), a scion of the Shapoorji Pallonji Group and former Chairman of Tata Group, who died in a road accident at Palghar near Mumbai on Sunday, will be performed at Worli crematorium in South Mumbai on Tuesday morning.

Maharashtra Chief Minister Eknath Shinde, Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis, and other politicians are expected to attend the funeral. The condolences will be offered on behalf of the Maharashtra Government.

Usually, the last rites of Parsis are performed at the Tower of Silence at Doongerwadi in South Mumbai after offering prayers, and the mortal remains are left for the natural decay of the dead at a specially designed tower.

However, over the years, the system has changed, and most of the Parsis prefer to either bury the remains or cremate them.

A brief announcement by the family said: “Beloved husband of Rohiqa, father of Firoz and Zahan, son of the late Pallonji Shapoorji Mistry and Patsy Mistry, son-in-law of Iqbal and Roshan Chagla, brother of Laila Rustom Jehangir, Aloo Noel Tata, and Shapoor Mistry. A friend to many, loved by all. A life well lived,” the family added, requesting, “No condolence visits, please.” Some family members were set to reach Mumbai by Monday night.

A team of 20 doctors is attending to both, who suffered grievous injuries.
