SAUDI ARABIA: Following the termination of Cristiano Ronaldo’s contract by Manchester United, rumours surfaced that the star player had signed a two-and-a-half-year contract worth 200 million euros per season with the Saudi Arabian club Al-Nassr.
After the 37-year-old’s explosive interview, in which he claimed that he felt betrayed by the team, accused a few top figures of attempting to force him to quit Old Trafford, and stated that he did not respect coach Erik ten Hag, United made the audacious decision to part ways with Ronaldo.
Ronaldo will start playing for Al Nassr on January 1, 2023, according to the Spanish publication Marca.
The fast food business KFC poked fun at Ronaldo as soon as the news got out, saying the Portuguese forward would be “a decent backup” to Vincent Aboubakar, a Cameroonian who will be joining Al Nassr in July 2021.
Aboubakar scored two goals and provided an assist before Cameroon just missed qualifying for the round of 16.
In contrast, Ronaldo, who is now competing in his seventh FIFA World Cup, has only scored one goal for Portugal thus far in the competition.
“As per the agreement, Cristiano Ronaldo will immediately depart from Manchester United.” “The group extends its best wishes to him and his family and is appreciative of his immense contribution over his two periods at Old Trafford, where he scored 145 goals in 346 appearances,” Manchester United said in a statement.
The statement continued, “Everyone at Manchester United is still dedicated to enhancing the team’s accomplishments under Erik ten Hag and working together to generate triumphs on the pitch.”
Ronaldo added the following in a separate statement: “After speaking with Manchester United, we have chosen to end our contract early.” My love for Manchester United and its fans will never waver. However, now is the ideal time for me to start looking for a new challenge. “I send my best wishes to the team for the remainder of the season and in the future.”
Ronaldo will lead Portugal in their Round of 16 FIFA World Cup match against Switzerland on Tuesday.
