INDIA: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Priyanka Chaturvedi took a jab at Wrestling Federation of India chief Braj Bhushan Singh over his latest claim that he hugged a female wrestler as a father figure.
A prolonged protest is initiated by world-class wrestlers like Vinesh Phogat, Bajrang Punia, and Sakshi Malik, seeking Singh’s resignation from the cabinet post. Thus, various politicians and actors have joined them in their active protest.
In the midst of the ongoing conflicts, a media clip of Singh went viral, where he can be heard saying, “The woman wrestler desired to communicate with her father, but lacking a mobile phone, I offered mine for her to use and connected her with him. After talking, I hugged her. When she felt uncomfortable, I told her that I was hugging her like a father.”
This made Chaturvedi oppose the entire statement, and she opted for her official Twitter handle and wrote, “Sick and disgusting. Taking advantage of the powerful position he is in to exploit a wrestler who came to seek his help. No, you do not hug ANY WOMAN WITHOUT HER PERMISSION AND THEN JUSTIFY IT AS A FATHERLY HUG.”
Furthermore, the MP took a start at the Bharatiya Janata Party and wrote, “At the Bharatiya Janata Party, I am defending the WFI president. Shame on the BJP for continuing to defend this person. It is a bigger shame that the WCD Minister is still shamelessly silent.”
The World Championship Medalist Vinesh Phogat claimed that in the past two sexual harassment cases were reported during the national camp, but the WFI succeeded in wiping out the reports.
Moreover, complainants had earlier been shared via ordeal in a meeting to which the sports minister didn’t react except for constituting an oversight panel. Now, a five-member panel has been formed to look into the allegations of sexual harassment against Singh.
