UNITED STATES. San Francisco: Around the world, there has been a significant increase in monkeypox cases. As cases of monkeypox are increasing, California has proclaimed a state of emergency.

The city mayor London Breed has called for more vaccines. He said, “Vaccines need to be distributed quickly to places like San Francisco with a disproportionate share of cases.”

This week, the city reported 261 confirmed cases. According to city officials, the number may multiply sooner. “Necessary precautions and measures should be taken effectively by every citizen to fight the disease,” the officials said.

Till now, San Francisco has received 8,200 doses of ‘Jynneos’, which is the leading vaccine against the virus.

Talking about the outbreak, the Health Officer of San Francisco Susan Philip said, “We want the flexibility to be able to use our resources to best serve the public and protect health.”

“As we know, there are more cases that have yet to be diagnosed.”

According to Philip, San Francisco is the core, and if the city gets affected, then it will gradually spread over to other neighbouring cities and countries.

“I’m issuing this declaration to reaffirm our commitment to the wellbeing of these communities and to allow us to move more quickly to obtain and distribute the resources needed to help those disproportionately impacted,” said the health officer.

Some believe that the monkeypox cases are predominantly spreading through the LGBTQ community as the cases are mostly seen among gay couples or those who indulge in sodomy.

Meanwhile, the San Francisco leaders and LGBTQ community advocate dissent in front of the US Department of Health and Human Services.

The state representative Scott Wiener said, “San Francisco was at the forefront of the public health responses to HIV and COVID-19, and we will be at the forefront when it comes to monkeypox, and we can’t and won’t leave the LGTBQ+ community out to dry.”
