INDIA: The lore and legend of Brahmastra can be termed Ayan Mukerji’s vision, which adds his directorial touch to the film. The story is, of course, pitched by him under the banner of Dharma Productions. Made on a budget of ₹ 300 crores, the film took almost eight years to wrap up and is finally arriving on the big screen on September 9, 2022.  

Ayan Mukerji reveals the inspiration behind Brahmastra

Ayan disclosed his inspiration for the film in an interview with Amar Ujala. He said, “I was mostly influenced by our history, our mythology, our ancient stories, and our Gods and Goddess.” They had been a part of my subconscious since childhood. Aside from that, I grew up watching a lot of Hollywood movies, and they were all made with technological breakthroughs. As a result of watching those films, I was inspired to create a similar cinematic spectacular.”

“I wanted to achieve something that had never been done on the Indian screen before. The idea in my mind was that the inspiration for the film should come from Indian spirituality,” he concluded.

When Ayan first announced the film in 2014, it was rumoured to be entitled Dragon, but it was later renamed Brahmastra. He explained the significance of the tile by stating that the title Brahmastra connects with ancient wisdom, forces, and strength.

The film is the first instalment of a trilogy that explores the journey of Shiva, played by Ranbir Kapoor, in Astraverse, a world filled with mystical weapons.

The cast of Brahmastra incorporates a range of well-known Indian actors. Ranbir Kapoor as Shiva, also called “Agni Astra”. The film also has Alia Bhatt as Isha, Amitabh Bachchan as Raghu, Nagarjuna Akkineni as Anish and Mouni Roy as Junoon.

In addition to the leading ensemble, Shah Rukh Khan is expected to feature in a cameo role as a scientist. The trailer has also sparked speculation among fans. Though it is only a rumour, the mystery surrounding the character will only be revealed with the film’s premiere.
