UNITED STATES: Finally, production on DC’s upcoming feature Blue Beetle has concluded. The film’s lead actor, Xolo Maridueña, has confirmed the production’s conclusion. On his social media page, director Angel Manuel Soto also announced the completion of the movie.
Xolo Maridueña posted a photo of him along with Soto. The photo was captioned with, “CIAO BACALAO, DONE WITH BLUE BEETLE. SEE YOU NEXT YEAR. Thank you to all the cast and crew who made this possible. I’m so proud of what everyone accomplished and even more proud to call us all a family! Thank you, Angel, for trusting me to bring Jaime to life.”
Xolo Maridueña presents Blue Beetle in its third incarnation.
Blue Beetle originally debuted in Infinite Crisis #3, which was released in 2005. There are three versions of the character in DC Comics. Dan Garret was the first persona to claim the Blue Bettle mantle.
Later, Ted Kord emerged as Dan’s replacement. The “New 52” era began with the reboot of DC comics in 2011. In the “New 52” timeline, Jaime Reyes takes over as the major version of Blue Beetle, reinstating prior iterations of the character.
Jamie obtains power from the Blue Beetle scarab bonded to his spin, allowing him to use the extra-terrestrial outfit. The suit can generate several weapons such as laser blasters, wings, and shields, as well as various attributes such as super strength and speed.
Maridueña is portraying Blue Bettle’s third incarnation, Jaime Reyes. The actor is famous for his portrayal of Miguel Diaz in the critically acclaimed Netflix series Cobra Kai, which served as the sequel to The Karate Kid (1984). He is mainly known for his work on the NBC television series Parenthood.
Angel Manuel Soto brings his directorial vision to the film, which stars Maridueña in a significant role. Susan Sarandon, Bruna Marquezine, Adrianna Barraza, Harvey Guillen, George Lopez, Damian Alcazar, and Sharon Stone will also star in the pivotal roles.
The film was originally intended to premiere on HBO Max, but it was eventually rescheduled for theatrical release on August 18, 2023.
