INDIA: Parliament second budget session has commenced, both the opposition and the ruling parties’ MPs engaged in a verbal brawl. The rift arose after Rahul Gandhi addressing India in the UK, stated that “Indian democracy is under attack”.
BJP bench demanded an apology from Rahul Gandhi for his controversial remark, whereas Congress party members sought a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe into the Adani-Hindenburg issue.
Rahul went on a week-long political tour in the UK, where he was invited to speak at Cambridge University’s Judge Business School on “Learning to Listen in the 21st Century” on February 28.
Rajnath Singh responded to the Congress MP’s statement and said, “Rahul Gandhi, a Lok Sabha member, went to London and tried to ‘discredit’ India, claiming that the country’s democratic structure is entirely disintegrating. He also stated that foreign countries should intervene to defend India’s democracy. He attempted to “seriously wound” India’s honor and prestige.”
Laying support to fellow party worker Pralhad Joshi, brought everyone’s attention to the horrific scenario of India when an “emergency” was declared under the UPA government. He said, “When fundamental rights were trampled during the emergency, who was in power? What had happened to democracy then?”
Piyush Goyal asked Rahul Gandhi to come up to the House and apologize for his “shameful” and “rubbish” statements against Indian democracy. However, counter-defending Gandhi, Mallikarjun Kharge questioned how a leader who is not a Rajya Sabha MP can be called to the House.
He even pointed fingers at PM Modi, stating that on various occasions, he had made controversial statements on global platforms.
