UNITED STATES: After the US military initiated air strikes against forces in combat that are supported by Iran for an attack in Syria, President Joe Biden has directed Iran that the United States will “act forcefully” to protect Americans.
During a visit to Canada, Biden reported, “Make no mistake: the United States does not seek conflict with Iran, but be prepared for us to act forcefully to protect our people.” He also said that the Americans were not going to stop.
An attack by a drone earlier on Thursday made people angry and caused the US to respond. The drone attack targeted a base close to Hasakah, in the north-eastern region of Syria, that is handled by the coalition led by the US fighting the possibility of an Islamic State.
A US service member was injured in Syria on Friday, as per the officials, in light of the series of strikes between US personnel and the troops supported by Iran. An attack on Thursday injured five US troops and two American contractors, killing one.
According to two US officials, there was a failure in the base’s defensive system, which made it impossible for the troops on the ground to act on the drone in time.
Given the recent attacks, the 2015 nuclear agreement between the major powers and Iran, as well as the fact that Russia is using Iranian drones to battle Ukraine, tensions between Washington and Tehran may increase.
Eight important Iranian fighters were killed by the US, as per the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. Fresh regions in eastern Syria were attacked by US rocket fire on Friday. However, no casualties were reported.
Since the start of 2021, Iran-backed groups have constantly launched attacks on US troops. Sleeper cells carry on with the hit-and-run attacks in remote areas even though some Syrian and Iraqi areas are free from the Islamic State.
