INDIA: In the wake of Superintendent Lohit Matani’s tenure at the helm of the Bhandara District Police Force, significant strides have been made in tackling criminal activities and fostering community engagement. Matani’s proactive approach has yielded tangible results, evident in the crime statistics and various community-centric initiatives implemented under his leadership.

Examining the crime records over the past five years in Khun Sadar, a noticeable trend emerges. In 2019, during the challenging COVID-19 period, 25 crimes were reported. This number decreased to 19 in 2020, only to rise to 30 in 2021 after the pandemic, and further increased to 34 crimes in 2022. Currently, 25 cases have been registered in 2023. The Superintendent’s focus on crime prevention is underscored by these statistics.

Road safety has been a priority for the Bhandara Police, with 182 accidents recorded in 2022. In response, 102 preventive actions were taken, resulting in a notable reduction to 786 crimes in 2023, with 143 accidents reported thus far.

In an exclusive interview with Transcontinental Times, Superintendent Lohit Matani highlighted significant achievements in addressing property crimes within the Bhandara district. In 2022, the police recorded 108 burglary cases, with an admirable 33.33% of them successfully resolved. Moving into 2023, despite 107 reported cases, there was a noteworthy improvement, with a 45% resolution rate, showcasing the dedication and effectiveness of the Bhandara Police under Matani’s leadership.

Matani also shed light on the department’s proactive stance in creating awareness and preventing crimes against women. A total of 29 programs were conducted in schools and colleges, reaching out to the younger demographic. Furthermore, an extensive effort unfolded under the district police station, with 185 programs executed to address and prevent crimes against women.

These initiatives underscore Superintendent Lohit Matani’s commitment to community safety and crime prevention, emphasizing a comprehensive approach that includes both addressing property crimes and fostering awareness to ensure the well-being of women in the Bhandara district.

The crackdown on illegal businesses, such as liquor and sand smuggling, has been relentless. In 2022, 1,431 crimes related to illegal liquor sales and leaking information were reported, resulting in the seizure of Rs. 27,24,552. Additionally, 300 crimes were reported in connection with illegal sand transport, leading to a total of 303 crimes registered in 2022. A focused campaign and special team were instrumental in curbing these illicit activities.

Under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (N.D.P.S), 15 crimes were recorded in 2022, rising to 31 in 2023. Similarly, 06 crimes under aromatic tobacco were reported in 2022, with 13 crimes in the current year.

To prevent the influx of criminals, 33 individuals were deported in 2023 under Sections 55, 56, 57 of Mapoka, and 12 persons faced charges under Mokka M.P.D.A, with five crimes registered. Superintendent Lohit Matani attributes these successes to regular cobbing operations, foot patrols, and strategic actions within the district.

The Bhandara Police, under Superintendent Lohit Matani’s leadership, continue to make significant strides in ensuring public safety, preventing crimes, and fostering a secure community environment.
