INDIA: Bihar’s district city, Begusarai, is terrified and is in a state of shock after two anonymous felons went to crowded areas with a motorbike and targeted a huge mass. On Tuesday, the miscreants opened fire on a 30-year-old woman, brutally killing her there and inflicting 11 injuries throughout the area.

The gunmen started aiming at Malhipur Chowk first, targeting the shops, then they continued firing at Barauni Thermal Chowk, Teghra, Bachwara and Rajendra Bridge. They chose random people and started targeting them at gun points. Meanwhile, Bihar CM Nitish Kumar called it an act of ‘conspiracy’ against him.

Kumar said, “Such incidents were perpetrated deliberately. There were people from the backward section in one area, while another had people from the Muslim community. There seems to be a conspiracy. I’ve directed officials to conduct a probe from every angle”. Further added, “In one area, there were people from Backward sections while another had people from the Muslim community. There seems to be a conspiracy.”

The Bihar CM made it clear in his statement that the incident broke out at the place where the backward section resided, whereas another had people from the Muslim community.

A few weeks back, Kumar held a meeting to review law and order in the state. “I have instructed the officers to keep an eye on such incidents”, says the CM. He had zero tolerance for such criminal activities. He had a detailed discussion with the DGP on the Begusarai shooting case and commanded a thorough investigation into the incident.

The Additional Director General of Police (HQ) Jitendra Singh Gangwar said in a media interaction, “Prima facie, our patrolling party was on the streets. Still, they either could not stop the criminals or could not do the checking. Seven police officials have been suspended with immediate effect in this connection.” In the ongoing process, the opposition started targeting the Bihar CM and held him responsible for failing at his governance.

Union minister and BJP spokesperson Shahnawaz Hussain lashed at Kumar, saying, “I was trying to set up industries in Begusarai, but now bullets are being fired like terrorists in Punjab and Kashmir. So many people have been shot and injured. This is a big incident in Bihar. The morale of criminals is increasing in Bihar, and people will not forgive those who boost the morale of criminals.” He even gave a reality check of Bihar’s current scenario by stating, “What will be the image of Bihar in the country? Nitish Kumar needs to check this situation.”
