INDIA: The much-awaited fantasy film Barbie, directed by Greta Gerwig, collected Rs 5 crore in India on its first day of release. The movie featured Margot Robbie, Ryan Gosling, Simu Liu, and Dua Lipa in pivotal roles. The hype surrounding the movie is surreal among netizens, and fans are looking forward to watching it on big screens.
For the actual launch day, Barbie successfully secured a sizable amount of advance bookings and sold 16,000 tickets among the three multiplex chains, PVR, INOX, and Cinepolis.
However, the film clashed with Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, which also has a phenomenal box office earning of Rs 13.50 crore nett. In the same chains of movie theatres, Oppenheimer’s Day 1 ticket sales came close to 1.30 lakh.
Reportedly, Margot Robbie starrer has a good chance of grossing over $300 million globally in its opening weekend. The Greta Gerwig-directed movie bagged $22.3 million in box office previews. Thus, it is said that Barbie is performing better in the US.
The film showcased the extraordinary lives of Barbie and Ken, who are cheering for the best time of their lives in Barbieland. But very soon, when the duo gets a chance to go to the real world, they discover the love and merits of living among humans.
Talking about Christopher Nolan’s Oppenheimer, it has reportedly surpassed Tom Cruise’s Mission Impossible: Dead Reckoning Part One, which earned Rs 12.50 crores in India on the first day of its release. There is strong competition between the two recently released films.
Where the audience is already divided for both genres, Oppenheimer seems to be performing well in the box office collection if compared to Barbie. However, the weekend will forecast the actual collections made by both films.
