Sushant Singh Rajput: A Case of Suicide or Murder?

2020 left the world in trauma once again when a bright shining star of Bollywood industry, Sushant Singh Rajput chose to end his life on 14 June 2020. Reports have suggested that he was suffering from depression from the past six months. How toxic his environment could be that he chose to end his life rather than trying again. His death brought in the face to face the ugly practices of our society.

Many news agencies used derogatory terms like ‘Guy from Patna failed in Mumbai’ ‘Sushant got Hit Wicket’. Such statements are like a black mark on journalism. How inhumane journalists could be for writing such statements for someone who took away his life. The real shock came from a reporter, who showed the audacity of asking Sushant’s dad how he felt after his son committed suicide. A helpless father lying unconscious who could not digest the fact that his youngest son ruthlessly ended his life. Is this what is called journalism?

Is this the real aim of reporters and journalists. While all this was ugly enough only to realize that a constable had leaked dead body images of Sushant Singh Rajput. Ethically that was a bigger crime committed for leaking such traumatizing pictures. What goes in the mind of such people who thought of leaking and circulating such pictures on social media for 15 minutes of fame.

When all these ugly sides of society were being highlighted many stars from the Bollywood industry took to their Instagram handles to speak about the heartless Bollywood society. Stars like Kangana Ranaut, Sikander Kher spoke about how lonely the Bollywood industry is for outsiders. Kanaga Ranaut spoke about the nepotism and ignorance in the industry while Sushant Singh Rajput was begging for help, as evident in his Instagram posts.

Stars like Karan Johar, Jacqueline Fernandes, Amit Sadh posted a picture with Sushant Singh Rajput and apologized to him for not being there when he needed people around him. The realization came a little too late to stop a gem from ending himself. This is all the dark life behind the glitters on screen.

His death has made us realize that we all have failed as a society. People neither gave him respect while he was alive nor while he took away his life. How toxic our society could be that it drove a young intelligent man towards taking away his own life in a snap. It would be wrong if his death his called suicide because our society murdered him ruthlessly.
