Raza Shines as Giant Slaying Zimbabwe Stun Pakistan by 1 Run

AUSTRALIA: The Zimbabwe skipper called the toss correctly and opted to bat first. The openers gave the team a solid start, but the remaining batsmen, except Sean Williams, crumbled as Pakistan bowlers made a solid comeback. In response, Pakistan batsmen faltered in the face of disciplined Zimbabwean bowling bravely defended 130 runs.

Zimbabwe Innings:

The openers, Craig Ervine (19 off 19 balls) and Wesley Madhevere (17 off 13 balls), gave their team a solid start, milking the Pakistan pace bowlers for runs on either side of the pitch. The batsmen attacked the bowlers right away as the duo amassed 42-runs for the first wicket in just five overs.

Ervine was the first wicket to fall. He was undone by the bounce and pace generated by Haris Rauf (12/1). He tried to pull a rising delivery, only to top-edge the ball to Mohammad Wasim at short fine.

Madhevere was trapped in front of the wickets three deliveries later by Mohammad Wasim (24/4). The bowlers found their rhythm after the powerplay overs and stemmed the flow of runs aided by the extra fielders outside the 30-yard circle.

The run rate dropped after the departure of the openers, and the mounting pressure got the better of Milton Sumba (8 odd 10 balls). Sumba wasn’t able to control his shot and ended up offering a return catch to Shadab Khan (23/3).

The Zimbabwean innings lost the early momentum and were 67/3 after ten overs. Sean Williams (31 off 28 balls) and Sikandar Raza (9 off 16 balls) hit a boundary each off the bowling of Naseem Shah (34/0) in an attempt to up the ante.

Pakistan bowlers, led by Shadab Khan, triggered a middle-order collapse as Zimbabwe lost four wickets in the space of six deliveries. Shadab castled Sean Williams and proceeded to have the new man in, Regis Chakabva, caught by Babar Azam in the very next delivery. Mohammad Wasim took two wickets off successive deliveries.

Sikandar Raza pulled a short delivery from Wasim straight to Haris Rauf. Luke Jongwe came in at number eight and was bowled off the very first delivery he faced. Brad Evans (19 off 15 balls) hit a six before being bowled by Wasim in the last over. Ryan Burl (10* off 15 balls) and Richard Ngarava (3* off 2 balls) took the Zimbabwean total to 130/8 in twenty overs.

Pakistan Innings:

Pakistan’s inning was off to a slow start as openers Mohammad Rizwan (14 off 16 runs) and Babar Azam (4 off 9 balls) were cautious early on. The 23-run opening partnership consumed 3.3 overs before the struggling Azam was caught by Ryan Burl off the bowling of Brad Evans. Rizwan hit a lucky six off Evans, a leading edge that flew over the wicket-keeper and over the boundary.

His luck, however, ran out when an attempted slice off Muzarabani (18/1) caught the inside edge of the bat and crashed onto the stumps. Zimbabwe bowlers kept tidy lines and lengths, choking the runs as Pakistan crawled to 28/2 at the end of the powerplay.

Luke Jongwe was introduced into the attack in the seventh over and struck immediately by dismissing Iftikhar Ahmed ( 5 off 10 balls). Iftikhar tried to help the ball down to the fine leg but inside-edged it to the keeper, who dived full length to his left to complete a fine catch.

Shan Masood (44 of 38 balls) joined forces with Shadab Khan (17 off 14 balls) and kept the scoreboard ticking with quick running between the wickets as boundaries were difficult to come by.

Sikandar Raza (25/3) struck twice in two deliveries, dismissing Shadab Khan and the new man in Haider Ali. Shadab had come down the track and hit the ball to Sean Williams at long-off. Haider Ali was caught by surprise as the ball beat the inside edge and caught him plumb in front of the wickets.

Raza struck again in his next over to have dangerous-looking Shan Masood stumped by the wicket-keeper. Raza fired the ball full, and down the leg-side, Masood tried to flick and overbalanced in the process, which allowed the keeper to whip the bails off. Ngarava (24/0), bowling the nineteenth over, conceded 11 runs, leaving Pakistan requiring 11 runs from the last over.

Mohammad Wasim (12* off 13 balls) and Mohammad Nawaz (22 off 18 balls) scored 8 runs off the first three deliveries of Brad Evans. Evans came back strongly to bowl a dot ball and then removed Nawaz, who mistimed a lofted hit straight to mid-off.

Shaheen Afridi (1 off 1 ball) was run out by Chakabva while attempting a non-existent second run off the last delivery to hand a one-run victory for Zimbabwe. Sikandar Raza was adjudged Player of the Match for his excellent bowling display, which decisively swung the match in Zimbabwe’s favour.

Marvel’s Midnight Suns to Feature Deadpool in 2023

0

UNITED STATES: The highly anticipated video game Marvel’s Midnight Suns is set to be released in less than two months. Firaxis Games, the developer, has already shown glimpses of the future plans in the franchise through the game’s post-launch DLC.

Deadpool is set to join Midnight Suns

Midnight Sun’s social media account had recently been taken over by Deadpool, hinting at a possible addition to the video game. This has been confirmed by the studio, and the “Merc with a Mouth” will indeed be joining the team in 2023.

Deadpool is set to be one of the four heroes joining the Midnight Sun’s team as part of the game’s “Season Pass.” Deadpool will be the first hero that can be obtained, followed by Venom, Michael Morbius, and Storm, who were revealed previously. The player will have to purchase the season pass to obtain the character as a reward. Alternatively, the season pass is available readily with the Legendary Edition of Midnight Suns.

The post-launch DLC packs will contain new story missions involving Deadpool and characters, along with new skins and fancy outfits. Skins for characters like Iron Man, Captain America, and Blade will be available after the launch but have to be obtained from the season pass.

The release dates for the characters haven’t been announced but are expected to drop at some point in 2023. The game itself is set to launch on the 2nd of December this year. Midnight Suns will be available on PC, PS4, PS5, Xbox One, and Xbox series 2. A Nintendo Switch support is planned to be launched soon.

Marvel’s Midnight Sun is a tactical Role-Playing Game set in the darker side of the Marvel Universe. The game brings players face-to-face against supernatural forces as they team up with as well as survive among the Midnight Suns, the Earth’s last line of defence against the underworld.

Red Bull Cost Cap Saga to Resume Post Mourning of Mateschitz Demise

0

UNITED KINGDOM: Christian Horner, team principal of Red Bull Racing, is confident that the stand-off between Red Bull and the FIA will conclude shortly as the negotiations between the two parties are set to resume during this weekend’s Mexican GP.

The FIA had announced that the team was guilty of committing a “minor overspend” breach and a “procedural breach” of the cost cap regulations set for the 2021 Formula 1 season.

The team has stayed adamant about its innocence. Hence, the FIA entered into a period of negotiation with the team.

Last Friday in Austin, Red Bull was due to hold a press conference on the issue. The conference was later cancelled as team boss Christian Horner was to meet with FIA President Mohammed Ben Sulayem on Saturday.

However, the sad news of the demise of Red Bull owner Dietrich Mateschitz came late on Saturday evening, and any further progress in the resolution of the matter took a backseat with the team withdrawing into mourning.

The deadline for the acceptance of the offered “Accepted Breach Agreement” (ABA) was extended to accommodate the unexpected development.

With talks between the FIA and Red Bull set to resume, the focus is on whether Red Bull will accept the charges and join the ABA alongside the FIA.

If the team accepts the ABA, the team will have to admit their guilt and face financial penalties as well as a sporting penalty such as reduced wind tunnel or Computational Fluid Dynamics (CFD) time, both of which will have significant implications in the car’s development for future seasons.

If Red Bull rejects the ABA and fights the initial findings of the Cost Cap Administration and escalates the issue, the team will run the risk of being hit with harsher sanctions, which include possible points losses for 2021 and potentially risking Max Verstappen’s title win.

NASA’s EMIT Earth Space Mission Maps Global Methane Levels

0

UNITED STATES: NASA’s Earth Surface Mineral Dust Source Investigation (EMIT) mission maps the prevalence of key minerals in the Earth’s dust-producing deserts to understand the effect of airborne particles on Earth’s climate. The mission has a pivotal capability to detect the presence of greenhouse gases like methane.

EMIT was installed on the International Space Station in July. Since then, the team monitoring the data collected by EMIT has identified over 50 “super-emitters” spread across Central Asia, the Middle East, and the Southwestern United States. According to NASA, facilities and equipment that emit methane at high rates are categorized as “super-emitters.”

NASA’s EMIT visualized Methane level

Bill Nelson, the NASA Administrator, said that the key to limiting global warming is the reigning in of methane emissions. He felt that the discovery would help researchers to pinpoint the location of methane leaks as well as provide insight into how to quickly address the rising levels of methane.

He adds that even though the International Space Station and many other NASA satellites’ contribution in determining the changes happening to the Earth’s climate is invaluable, the EMIT mission is becoming a critical tool to measure the potent greenhouse gas and to stop it at its source.

EMIT’s imaging spectrometer can distinguish the spectral fingerprint of methane with high accuracy and precision. A spectral fingerprint is the unique pattern of infrared light absorbed by methane. The space station’s orbit helped EMIT to cover the Earth’s surface broadly. It is also able to scan bands of Earth’s surface dozens of miles wide while resolving areas that are comparable to the size of a football field.

The instrument aboard the EMIT mission can also measure carbon dioxide. In the greenhouse-gas emissions due to human activities, carbon dioxide is the major constituent, while methane has a fractional margin. But methane is 80 times more effective than carbon dioxide at trapping heat in the atmosphere.

While carbon dioxide takes centuries to dissipate or get reabsorbed, methane lasts much less for about a decade, which means that if methane emissions were reduced, its effect on greenhouse-gas levels in the atmosphere would be in a similar timeframe.

Call Of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 Game Post-credit Scene Breakdown

0

UNITED STATES: The campaign mode of the popular game, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 follows the classic characters from the Call of Duty franchise alongside returning characters from the older versions of the hit military-inspired action game.

In the final part of the game, John MacTavish, aka Soap, disarms a missile that was heading to Washington, D.C, before being attacked by Hassan Zyani in a skyscraper in Chicago. Before Zyani could throw Soap out of a window, he was shot in the head by Simon Riley, aka Ghost, who is stationed opposite the skyscraper, armed with a sniper rifle.

In the game, Laswell, a CIA operative who assisted the task force throughout the campaign, reports that General Shepard, who had turned on Task Force 141 in earlier installments of the game, is nowhere to be found. Captain Price gets an image from Laswell and immediately recognizes him as Makarov. After each member of Task Force 141 had seen the image of Makarov, the credits started rolling.

After the credits, there is a short post-credit scene that seems to be set inside a Russian commercial flight where a few men are just about to receive some food or refreshments. One of the passengers asks for a salad, after which he crafts a gun from materials hidden in his pockets and accessories on him.

An ammo clip is attached to the roof of the salad’s serving bowl. The man proceeds to open his phone to see a text from somebody with a name beginning with “M,” most likely to be Makarov.

After he tells “M” that he is ready, he gets a response saying, “No Russians.” Two other men can be seen in the background of the next scene, where the man destroys the phone by putting it into a glass of fizzy drinks, who are most likely to be the man’s accomplices.

The plane shown in the post-credit scene is probably flying over Europe, which is shown in some blurred screens in the plane, showing the flight’s path, likely towards Moscow, giving flashbacks of the notorious “No Russian” mission which took place in an airport in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2.

The post-credit scene confirms that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 is likely to be launched in the future by Activision. The post-credit scene sets up the return of Makarov and General Shepard, the antagonists of Call of Duty’s original trilogy.

Audi Announces Partnership with Sauber Formula One Team from 2026

GERMANY: Volkswagen Group announced their intention for their Audi brand to join Formula 1, a long time ago. Since then, the attention had turned towards their entry into the pinnacle of motorsports, with the common conception being that they would partner with one of the existing teams since Formula One Management wasn’t keen on having an additional team.

It has been confirmed that the German brand will join Formula One in 2026 as a partner of the Sauber team. 2026 is the year that a new generation of Formula One power units is set to be introduced.

The engine will run on fully sustainable biofuel while the Motor Generator Unit-Heat (MGU-H), which converts the heat from the exhaust into electrical power, will be discontinued.

Audi has confirmed that the 2026 Formula One power unit will be created in Neuburg, Audi’s Motorsport Competence Centre, with the preparations for their specially founded Audi Formula Racing GmbH “proceeding as planned.”

According to Audi, 120 employees are already working on the project, and “the expansion of the Neuburg facility in terms of personnel, buildings, and technical infrastructure is expected to be largely in place in 2023.”

The Audi power unit is planned to be trialled in a Formula One test car in 2025. Sauber will compete as an Audi factory team with an Audi power unit.

The car will be manufactured and developed at Sauber’s Hinwll base headquarters, with Sauber also being responsible for the planning and execution of race operations.

The deal is said to be different from Sauber’s current partnership with Alfa Romeo in the sense that Audi is actively working on purchasing a stake in the Sauber Group.

Alfa Romeo doesn’t own a stake in Sauber, but the team races under the Alfa Romeo name and branding. Sauber’s deal with Alfa Romeo is set to conclude after the 2023 season.

Audi had previously used Sauber’s wind tunnel as a part of their DTM and Le Mans programmes.

Ireland Stuns England by 5 Runs Via the Duckworth-Lewis-Stern Method

AUSTRALIA: Balbirnie’s half-century and disciplined bowling helped Ireland pull-off surprise victory over England. Buttler, the English skipper, won the toss and chose to bowl first.

Ireland Innings:

After a brief spell of showers between the toss and the start of the innings, which delayed the beginning of Ireland’s innings by 18 minutes, another period of rain-induced breakage of play at the haloed Melbourne Cricket Ground.

Mark Wood (34/3) quickly dismissed Paul Stirling (14 off 8 balls) after being hit for a six over the third man, two deliveries earlier. Sam Curran, the fielder at the boundary, tried to lob the ball back into the field as he was tumbling over the ropes, but despite his best efforts, he made contact with the boundary just as he was about to throw the ball back.

Besides the early setback, the Ireland batsmen, Andrew Balbirnie (62 off 47 balls) and Lorcan Tucker (34 off 27 balls), played sensible yet attacking cricket while scoring runs at a brisk rate as Ireland reached 59/1 in the powerplay overs.

Tucker took on Sam Curran (30/2) in the sixth over, smashing the pacer for 14 runs. Balbirnie switched gears and smashed Chris Woakes (41/0) for 18 runs in an expensive 10th over from the paceman.

The batsman hit two boundaries and a six in the over, taking the Irish total to 92/1 after 10 overs.

The momentum of the Ireland innings slowed down when Tucker was dismissed in an unlucky fashion.

Balbirnie pushed a quick delivery from Adil Rashid (24/0) back to the bowler, who managed to get a finger onto the ball before it crashed into the non-striker’s stumps and Tucker was well short of his crease.

Harry Tector (0 off 2 balls) fell victim to the sheer pace of Mark Wood and was caught behind after he poked at a length delivery outside of the off stump.

Balbirnie soon reached his 8th half-century in T20Is in the 14th over. In the next over, he slammed Curran for a six over square leg, collecting 11 runs in the process.

Liam Livingstone claimed the prized wicket of Balbirnie, who was caught at backward square leg in the 16th over.

Livingstone caught George Dockrell off the next ball to bring England right back into the game.

Gareth Delany denied the Englishman a hat-trick as he jammed the ball back to the bowler. Curtis Campher (17 off 11 balls) played a brief cameo, hitting three boundaries before becoming Mark Wood’s third victim.

Ireland kept losing wickets at regular intervals, with Mark Adair (4 off 4 balls) hitting Livingstone straight to Sam Curran at deep mid-wicket.

Sam Curran struck twice in the penultimate over, dismissing Barry McCarthy (3 off 3 balls) and Fionn Hand (1 off 2 balls) in the space of five deliveries.

Joshua Little (0 off 1 ball) was caught behind off the bowling of Ben Stokes (8/1) as Ireland’s innings ended at 157 all-out in 19.2 overs with Gareth Delany (12* off 10) not out at the other end.

England Innings:

In their defence of 158, Ireland were given an early breakthrough by Joshua Little, who had Jos Buttler caught behind the stumps off the second delivery of the innings without scoring. He returned in his second over to get rid of Alex Hales (7 off 5 balls), who top-edged a pull and the ball ballooned up in the air.

Mark Adair called for the catch and moved to his left at short fine to latch onto the ball. The last of the powerplay saw Fionn Hand castle Ben Stokes (6 off 8 balls).

Hand claimed a wicket in his first legitimate delivery in the World Cup as Stokes missed the line of the delivery and the ball seamed in and onto the stumps. England struggled to 37/3 at the end of the powerplay.

The England batsmen couldn’t find easy runs with the Irish bowlers keeping a tidy length and making it difficult for stroke play.

The boundaries dried up as runs came through extras and running between the wickets. At the end of 10 overs, England was 63/3.

Two catches were dropped in two deliveries off the bowling of George Dockrell in the 11th over by Adair and Delany.

Dockrell had his man two balls later as Delany finally latched on to the catch offered by Harry Brook.

Ireland got their fifth wicket in the form of a struggling Dawid Malan (35 off 37 balls), who was caught at third man by a sliding Fionn Cook off the bowling of Barry McCarthy in the 14th over.

Moeen Ali targeted Gareth Delany’s final over as he hit the spinner for a six and a boundary, collecting twelve runs in three deliveries before rain interrupted the play again and covers came over the ground.

As per DLS, England was 5 runs behind the benchmark score. With no signs of the rain subsiding, the game was called off at 18:54 local time and Ireland emerged victorious in the rain-affected game.

American GP: Hamilton Misses Elusive Victory as Red Bull Clinch Championship

0

UNITED STATES: Red Bull driver Max Verstappen won a record-equalling 13th victory of the season and the Red Bull team, mourning the loss of its co-founder and owner Dietrich Mateschitz’s demise, claimed a milestone fifth Formula 1 constructors’ title in the American GP.

Starting from P2, Max Verstappen took the lead at the start and avoided an incident behind as Ferrari’s Carlos Sainz and Mercedes’ George Russell clashed at the Turn 1 hairpin.

In his Red Bull RB18, Verstappen looked set for another dominating victory at the American GP, handling multiple safety car restarts and managing his pace and tyres skilfully.

A slow second pitstop saw the Dutchman fall behind the recovering Ferrari of Charles Leclerc and Mercedes’ Lewis Hamilton, whose hunt for the elusive victory in the wretched 2022 season continued as Verstappen overtook him with just six laps remaining to the chequered flag.

Lewis Hamilton produced a scintillating effort behind the wheel of his W13 but had to settle for second place. Leclerc drove brilliantly from P12 to take the final podium place.

The Ferrari driver benefitted from a cheap pitstop behind the safety car thanks to Valtteri Bottas’s spin into the gravel traps. He started twelfth, owing to the grid penalty after his power unit changes. Red Bull’s Sergio Perez, who started 9th after his engine penalty, finished fourth.

Russell served a five-second time penalty following his lap 1 incident and fought back to clinch fifth place and the fastest lap after pitting late for a new set of tyres.

McLaren’s Lando Norris finished sixth, after being thirteenth at one stage. Fernando Alonso, who suffered a dramatic collision with Lance Stroll mid-race, bounced back to claim seventh. He was followed by the Aston Martin of Sebastian Vettel in eighth and Haas’s Kevin Magnussen in ninth.

Alpha Tauri driver Yuki Tsunoda took 10th place after starting from the back of the grid due to an engine penalty.

Magnussen, who was on a one-stop race, and Vettel put up a brilliant fight in the last lap of the race to settle their final finishing positions.

Vettel could have finished higher, but a slow pitstop after the front jack failed meant that he had to fight his way back to the points, which also earned him the “Driver of the Day” award.

Alpine’s Esteban Ocon finished eleventh, ahead of Williams’ Alex Albon in twelfth and Alfa Romeo’s Zhou Guanyu in thirteenth.

Pierre Gasly finished fourteenth, culminating a day to forget during the American GP after picking up a time penalty behind the safety car, which was not served properly in the pits, resulting in another time penalty that was to be added after the race.

Mick Schumacher didn’t have the pace that his teammate Magnussen had and finished fifteenth.

Daniel Ricciardo had a bad day at his favourite American GP weekend as he finished sixteenth, one place ahead of Williams’ Nicholas Latifi, who was the last of the drivers who finished the race.

After the race, Haas protested the Alpina of Fernando Alonso for driving a dangerous car, which was upheld by the race stewards, who slapped Alonso with a 30-second post-race time penalty, which saw him fall out of the points and into P15.

The drivers from Sebastian Vettel to Pierre Gasly were promoted a place each in the final finishing order after the penalty was applied.

Fernando Alonso’s Alpine had lost one of its mirrors following the damage from his earlier collision with the Aston Martin of Lance Stroll.
