Record-breaking Max Verstappen Wins the Mexican GP

0

MEXICO: Red Bull driver Max Verstappen claimed his 14th victory of the 2022 season at the Mexican GP. The victory moved Max Verstappen clear of Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel’s record of 13 wins in a single Formula 1 season.

In a race that featured interesting strategic choices, Max Verstappen and Red Bull teammate Sergio Perez opted for a soft-medium tyre strategy.

The Mercedes duo of Lewis Hamilton and George Russell went for a medium-hard tyre strategy, which was questioned by the drivers as to why the team had swapped their starting set of mediums for hards.

Lewis Hamilton finished second, 15 seconds behind Max Verstappen. Home favourite Sergio Perez gave his fans something to cheer about in the Mexican GP, finishing third, a further 3 seconds behind Hamilton.

George Russell, who started second on the grid, finished fourth after losing two positions in the opening lap. George, in particular, was unhappy with the tyre strategy.

He repeatedly asked Mercedes to pit again for softs, which he felt was the better tyre. Mercedes finally pitted him on the penultimate lap, after which he went on to claim the fastest lap of the race.

Ferrari endured an underwhelming race, with Carlos Sainz and Charles Leclerc finishing fifth and sixth, respectively.

The Ferrari duo were followed by the McLaren of Daniel Ricciardo, who charged his way to seventh and kept his position after he was hit with a 10-second post-race time penalty after colliding with Yuki Tsunoda.

The Alpino of Esteban Ocon came home in eighth. His teammate, Fernando Alonso, suffered an engine failure late in the race and had to retire the car.

Lando Norris in the other McLaren finished ninth, ahead of Alfa Romeo’s Valtteri Bottas, who couldn’t perform as well as he had in qualification.

Alpha Tauri driver Pierre Gasly finished eleventh, missing out on a point by an agonising half a second. He picked up a 5-second time penalty early in the race after an aggressive move on Aston Martin’s Lance Stroll, who finished fifteenth.

Alex Albon drove well to guide his Williams to twelfth, one ahead of Zhou Guanyu in thirteenth. Sebastian Vettel, who sported a special tribute helmet to the late Dietrich Mateschitz, finished fourteenth.

The Haas duo of Mick Schumacher and Kevin Magnussen finished sixteenth and seventeenth, ahead of Nicholas Latifi, who was eighteenth and last among the drivers who finished the race.

The Mexican GP was in its sixty-fifth edition. Local lad Sergio Perez was welcomed by a sell-out crowd at the Autodromo Hermano Rodriquez.

The Mexican GP crowd enthusiastically cheered on every move of home hero Sergio Perez, who treated them to a podium finish in the race.

Bangladesh Emerges Victorious in Last-over Thriller; Defeats Zimbabwe by 3 Runs

0

AUSTRALIA: Bangladesh won the crucial toss and opted to bat first on a dry Perth pitch. After losing two wickets early, a valiant fifty from Najmul Shanto and cameos from Shakib Al Hasan and Afif Hossain rebuilt the Bangladesh innings.

Sean Williams’ half-century and a cameo from Ryan Burl took Zimbabwe within touching distance of a win, but Mosaddek Hossain successfully defended 16 runs in a drama-filled last over.

Bangladesh innings

Blessing Muzarabani (13/2) struck early to dismiss Soumya Sarkar (0 off 2 balls) for a duck. The delivery from Muzarabani was leaving the batsman and Soumya in an attempt to try and guide it, edged it behind to the wicketkeeper. Muzarabani stuck again in the sixth over.

Litton Das tried to scoop the bowler over the wicketkeeper. The ball struck the bat’s leading edge and the resulting catch was safely pouched by Chakabva behind the stumps.

Shakib Al Hasan (23 off 20 balls) and Najmul Shanto (71 off 55) joined forces and rotated the strike with ease as Bangladesh reached 63/2 after ten overs, 32 of which, came in the powerplay overs.

Shakib departed in the thirteenth over as he was caught at backward square leg off Sean Williams (10/1). Shakib went for a slog sweep but top-edged it to a diving Muzarabani. Shanto soon brought up his fighting half-century.

In the next over by Brad Evans, Shanto hit a six, over long-on and two boundaries, milking seventeen runs from the over. Shanto however didn’t last long. He was caught by Ervine off the bowling of Sikandar Raza (35/1) after he miscued a big hit.

Afif Hossain (29 off 19 balls) hit a six in the nineteenth over after he was dropped by Brad Evans at deep-midwicket. Richard Ngarava (24/2), bowling the last over of the Bangladesh innings, removed Mosaddek Hossain (7 off 10 balls) by having him caught at first slip by Tendai Chatara.

There were doubts about the ball bumping off the ground but replays showed that the ball went straight off the face of the bat to the fielder. Nurul Hossain (1 off 1 ball) was run out two deliveries later while attempting a risky second run.

Ngarava finished the inning by catching Afif Hossain plumb in front of the wickets. Bangladesh finished their quota of twenty overs at 157/8, setting Zimbabwe a target of 158 to chase.

Zimbabwe innings

Openers Wesley Madhevere (4 off 3 balls) and Craig Ervine (8 off 7 balls) had a responsibility to give Zimbabwe a good start in their quest to chase down the target.

Taskin Ahmed (19/3) wasted no time to give Bangladesh the first breakthrough and had Madhevere caught by Mustafizur at third man. Taskin returned in his next over and removed Ervine who slashed at a widish delivery, only to edge it to the keeper who did the rest.

Mustafizur Rahman (15/2) was introduced into the attack in the sixth over and struck twice right away. He removed Milton Shumba (8 off 15 balls) and Sikandar Raza, reducing Zimbabwe to 36/4 after six overs while giving away a solitary run.

Milton Shumba mishit a lofted drive off the pace and the resulting skier was gobbled by Shakib Al Hasan who held onto a terrific diving catch. Zimbabwe skipper, Sikandar Raza was out for a duck, caught by Afif Hossain.

Sean Williams (64 off 42 balls) and Regis Chakabva (15 off 19 balls) put together a 34-run partnership for the fifth wicket before Taskin struck once again with a wicket-maiden over.

Taskin Ahmed was brought back into the attack to break the partnership. He delivered immediately and induced an edge off the blade of Chakabva and Nurul Hasan did the rest behind the stumps.

Ryan Burl started with a bang, hitting a four and a six off Mosaddek Hossain (37/3), but couldn’t manage to keep the momentum going. Williams and Burl ran between the wickets brilliantly, picking up the odd boundary ever so often.

Sean Williams brought up his 10th T20I fifty in the eighteenth over with a single off Hasan Mahmud (36/0). Williams hit successive boundaries off Mahmud to bring the equation down to 26 from 12 deliveries.

Sean Williams hit Shakib Al Hasan (34/0) for a boundary in the nineteenth over, raising hopes for the Zimbabweans. The hopes were dashed in the very next delivery when Williams was run out while trying to sneak in a non-existent single.

Mosaddek Hossain, bowling the last over, dismissed Brad Evans (2 off 2 balls). Evans went for a massive hit off the spinner but failed to clear the boundary ropes at the huge Gabba Oval.

Richard Ngarava came in at number nine and hit Hossain for a four and six off successive deliveries right away. Hossain came back strongly to have Ngarava stumped off the next delivery.

Muzarabani was stumped out in the very next delivery, handing Bangladesh a slender 4-run victory.

However, when the umpires reviewed the stumping, it seemed that the keeper Nurul Hasan had collected the ball in front of the stumps and the delivery was adjudged as a no-ball.

The Bangladesh players, who were celebrating were called back and Hossain had to bowl one more delivery.

Muzarabani failed to connect the free-hit as the Bangladesh players celebrated their victory for the second time in two deliveries, albeit this time is a victory by 3 runs.

Taskin Ahmed was adjudged the Player of the Match for the successive match for his bowling exploits of 4-1-19-3, which broke the Zimbabwean batting.

Vande Bharat Express Runs over Cattle, Engine Cover Damaged

0

INDIA: The high-speed Vande Bharat Express ran over cattle near Atul in the Valsad district in Gujarat. The train was en route to its destination, Gandhinagar, from Mumbai Central.

Vande Bharat Express endures third incident since it’s launch

There was no significant damage to the train other than a broken cover of the front coach. Following the incident, the train was stationary for almost thirty minutes. The train’s coupler, water pump pipe, and BCU cover were damaged as a result of the collision. This is the third such incident involving Vande Bharat Express since it was launched last month.

The train was delayed by 15-20 minutes, as per railway officials, who added that the incident happened around 8:30 am. Sumit Thakur, Western Railway’s chief public relations officer, said that the train did not suffer any operational damage and that all passengers aboard the train were safe.

On October 6, Vande Bharat Express suffered a similar incident. The train rammed into a herd of buffaloes and killed four of them. The incident happened when the train was on its way to Gandhinagar, between Vatva and Maninagar in Gujarat. The train had extensive damage after colliding with cattle, and the nose panel had to be replaced overnight.

On October 7, a day later, the train travelling from Gujarat to Mumbai struck a cow close to Anand. On October 8, between Dankaur and Wair stations, the train experienced a bearing issue in the traction motor of the C8 carriage.

The train was flagged-off by Prime Minister Narendra Modi on September 30 from Gandhinagar. The Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Superfast Express began its commercial operation on October 1, a day after its flag-off ceremony.

The Vande Bharat Express is an indigenously designed and manufactured semi-high-speed train. Mumbai-Gandhinagar Vande Bharat Superfast Express is the third train under the Vande Bharat series.

Sega Gears up for the Creation of Super Game by 2026

0

JAPAN: Japanese video game company Sega has revealed its plans to launch a stream-friendly “Super Game.” In a recent financial report released by the company, it said that Sega is in the process of developing the game, which is slated for a release before March 2026. The report explains the details of the project, and it has been made clear that the “Super Game” is unique.

Sega is set to bring Super Game in 2026

According to the report, the developers wants the game to be engaging with the gaming community not just by playing it but also by streaming the game as well as watching videos. Sega’s goal for the “Super Game” is to attract more active users than any of the games developed by Sega before.

The report mentions that the target community of the game has to be one that “expands and further develops game content, adding value to a game that is unimagined by developers.” This would, in turn, result in more users of the game, which will produce more content, and the cycle continues.

The report stated that Sega specifically wants the type of game that can be supported with user-generated content. It is theoretically a very financially savvy idea, as fans themselves can produce content. It will keep them coming back to the game without the developers having to spend hours making it.

Games like Fortnite and Minecraft have had enormous success with user-generated content. Nintendo’s Super Mario Maker and PlayStation’s Dreams are the other attempts made by other game developers to create games centered around the user.

For the “Super Game” to be successful, the developers have to create a healthy set of intuitive tools that will allow gamers to make their content without much hassle. The game has to be interesting to the public. Sega has recognized the prerequisites for the success of the game. According to Sega, “the starting point for building that kind of community is creating an interesting game.”

Sega also has plans to offer “subscription-based services” to the older users of the company. This is achieved by the vast library of IPs stored by the developer from the users of their preceding games.

FIA Announces Fine and 10% Wind Tunnel Time Reduction for Red Bull

0

MEXICO: Red Bull has been served with a financial as well as a sporting penalty for breaching last year’s cost cap. The FIA on Friday confirmed a $7 million fine and a deduction of 10% wind tunnel time for Red Bull.

The FIA had declared the breach as a “minor overspend.” According to the cost cap regulations, it meant that the team had overspent in the range of $1 to $7.25 million. The FIA finally confirmed the final figure of overspending to be $2.2 million.

The other teams, which adhered to the cost cap, were demanding a financial and sporting penalty for Red Bull. Several team principals claimed that any advantage arising from overspending could give the team a three-year advantage.

After three long weeks of negotiations with the FIA, Red Bull settled for the Accepted Breach Agreement.

As the winner of the constructors’ championship, Red Bull already has less wind tunnel time than the other teams. Red Bull will be allotted 70% of the total hours permitted for the team that finishes last.

In other words, Red Bull would get only 1400 hours out of the maximum 2000 hours received by the team in P10. A further reduction of 10% would effectively leave the Milton Keynes-based team with just 1260 hours.

A statement released by the FIA read that Red Bull Racing was found to have breached the cost cap. However, the Cost Cap Administration felt that Red Bull acted co-operatively throughout the review process and requested further information regarding last year’s expenses.

The administration felt that the team had not acted in bad faith and that no evidence of bad faith or actions in a fraudulent manner were noticed.

The statement added that Red Bull had accepted the ABA offer. The statement went on to explain the nature of overspending.

A tax credit miscalculation affected the cost cap by a tune of £1,431,348 which was considered by the Cost Cap Administration. Apart from that, Red Bull was found to have exceeded the 2021 cost cap by £432,652, a 0.37% overspend.

The FIA also announced Aston Martin’s penalty for their procedural breach. The British racing team was hit with a $450,000 fine.

Mexico GP: Max Verstappen Won’t ‘Gift’ Home Race Win to Teammate Sergio Perez

0

MEXICO: Red Bull’s Max Verstappen has already won the Drivers’ championship and led Red Bull to its fifth Constructors’ championship.

Ahead of his teammate’s home race at the Mexico GP, there is not much that the Red Bull driver has to achieve toward the end of the season.

However, Max Verstappen’s intensity will not be affected as team-mate Sergio Perez eyes his maiden victory on home soil. Max Verstappen, during his media duties ahead of the culturally glamorous Mexico GP, has confirmed that he will not be gifting Sergio Perez a win in his home Grand Prix. He felt that the Mexican driver was good enough to win races on his own.

He said that the team would be happy if they finished first and second in the drivers’ championship and that it was not about “giving presents.” He added that winning a race on merit rather than being gifted was more rewarding.

He was confident in Sergio Perez’s performing well in front of his home crowd. Sergio Perez said that he does not want any gifts from his illustrious teammates.

The Autódromo Hermanos Rodrguez has historically been Red Bull’s strongest track in recent years. Red Bull has won three out of the last four Mexican GPs.

The autodrome is 2200m above sea level and is the highest Formula 1 track in terms of altitude. Max Verstappen won last year’s race, while Sergio Perez came third, behind Lewis Hamilton.

Max Verstappen is on par with Michael Schumacher and Sebastian Vettel in terms of the most victories in one season. He will be itching to win one more race and move past the German duo.

Red Bull will be aiming for a one-two in the drivers’ standings, an achievement that the Milton Keynes-based team hasn’t yet achieved.

Shockwaves from Meteoroid Impact Detected by NASA’s InSight Lander

UNITED STATES: On the 24th of December 2021, NASA’s InSight mission detected seismic waves caused by a meteoroid impact. The InSight mission landed on Martian soil back in November 2018.

In photos taken by NASA’s Mars Reconnaissance Orbiter (MRO), fresh, large impact craters can be seen.

Ingrid Daubar, a planetary scientist at Brown University, said during a news conference on Thursday that the crater was by far “the biggest new crater” that the team had discovered.

The photos taken by the orbiter provided clues to the source of the seismic waves picked up by InSight.

Dauber felt that the formation of the crater was a “once in a generation” event. He added that it was a scientific gift that it happened while InSight was recording seismic data on the Martian surface.

The meteoroid strike impact caused a magnitude 4 quake and produced a crater that was 130 metres wide. As the InSight scientists were analysing the Christmas Eve impact, the scientists with NASA’s MRO mission provided the breakthrough.

Liliya Posiolova, Orbital Science operations lead for MRO at Malin Space Science Systems in California, said in the news conference that the team was excited when they first saw the images from the orbiter.

Posiolova and her colleagues discovered the fresh crater in data collected by the MRO’s Context Camera. The crater, along with the rays of debris from the impact, was spread over a circular region over 30 kilometres wide. The team had to take two more images to capture the perturbance area.

From the calculations of the scientists, the asteroid that smashed into Mars was somewhere between 5 and 12 metres wide. An asteroid of that size would have burned up in the Earth’s atmosphere.

However, it crashed into the surface of Mars as the Red Planet’s thin atmosphere can’t do much to protect the surface.

Red Bull Agrees to Cost Cap Infringement Penalty with FIA

0

UNITED KINGDOM: Red Bull and Aston Martin, the two teams found guilty of breaching the budget cap, have reportedly agreed to an “Accepted Breach Agreement” (ABA) with the cost cap administration ahead of the Mexican GP.

Red Bull was found guilty of committing a “minor overspend,” while Aston Martin’s was a “procedural breach.”

Since the news of a potential budget cap infringement started during the Singapore GP weekend, the paddock has been full of opinions regarding the kind of punishment that should be handed out to the teams found guilty of the financial regulation breach.

The suggested punishments ranged from the removal of championship points from the current as well as the previous year’s championships to financial penalties.

As a part of the financial regulations laid out for the budget cap breaches, the two teams entered into ABA negotiations with the FIA, and as per reports, the teams have agreed to the penalties given by the FIA.

According to media outlet The Race, a fine and a reduction in the amount of aerodynamic testing is the most likely punishment that will be dished out to Red Bull.

Aston Martin’s penalty will be purely financial, similar to that of Williams earlier this year when the team was found to have committed a procedural breach which was duly rectified.

Red Bull will hold a press conference ahead of the first practise session of the Mexican GP on Friday at 11:30 am local time.

For Aston Martin, a UK tax issue is rumoured to be the cause of the cost cap breach, whereas Red Bull’s breach of around $1.8 million seems to have risen due to catering and sick leave by the employees.

Red Bull driver, Max Verstappen, when asked about his reaction to the cost cap breach, responded by saying that it was “a bit frustrating.” He echoed his team’s stance that the team had adhered to the cost cap limit.

Gaganyaan Mission: ISRO Releases Details for India’s Maiden Human Space Flight

INDIA: The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) has announced that it will start a series of test flights for “Gaganyaan,” the first human space flight mission of India, in February 2023.

The Director of ISRO’s Human Space Flight Centre, Dr. R. Umamaheshwaran, revealed that the space agency has planned to deploy the heavy-lift Chinook helicopter and the massive C-17 Globemaster aircraft for testing the crew module.

The crew module will carry the team of astronauts into orbit for three days as part of the Gaganyaan human space flight mission. He was addressing the India Space Congress.

He added that the scientists at ISRO had finalised the design of the module’s Environment Control System, which ensures ambient living conditions for the astronauts in the crew service module when in space.

A minimum of seventeen different tests are slated to be carried out by ISRO before the final test launch of an unmanned module in December next year.

In his national address during the Independence Day celebrations in 2018, Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the Gaganyaan Mission, with 2022 being the tentative target to achieve the first human space flight by India.

2022 was the year when the country completed 75 years of freedom from British colonial rule. The COVID pandemic, however, delayed the progress of the mission.

Dr. R. Umamaheshwaran feels that the designing process of the crew module of Gaganyaan was especially difficult as the astronauts had to be safe and comfortable within the module even during re-entry when the temperature outside the space capsule could go well beyond 2000 °C.

The Environment Control System is another critical element of the project as it has to provide oxygen to the astronauts while removing carbon dioxide and, at the same time, it has to maintain temperature and humidity levels as well as eliminate fire hazards.

The Simpsons to Go Anime Mode in a Parody of Death Note

UNITED STATES: The creators of the famous sitcom, The Simpsons, have announced that one of its segments will feature another famous anime’s animation style for its well-known “Treehouse of Horror.” The segment will be a parody of the anime in its entirety.

The Simpsons brings the parody of Death Note

The Simpsons has been running for over thirty years and is known for its parodies of horror shows. The Simpsons: Treehouse of Horror segments have been a feature since the second season of the show. The segments were introduced as “Halloween specials.”

Starting back in 1990 with a take on “The Raven,” a famous Edgar Allen Poe story, the “Treehouse of Horror” segment has brought laughs and terror with every instalment. As time progressed, the focus of the specials shifted from spooky themes to more modern and less scary stories.

The show also showcased the parody of the hit Netflix series Stranger Things. When the special was in its initial days, its episodes were petrifying. Some writers even believed that they may have gone too far in places.

The last week’s segment, “Treehouse of Horror Presents: Not It,” was a full-length episode that parodied Stephen King’s blockbuster horror movie, It. According to the multiple media portals, the first images from the segment titled “Death Tome” revealed a recreation of Death Note’s look.

The character of Lisa will play the role of Light Yagami in the parody. The otherwise animated characters of The Simpsons seem to have more realistic features.

According to the clip reposted, Lisa is a misanthrope who believes that humanity deserves to go extinct. Soon, the Death Tome falls from the sky, and after reading it, she discovers that any person whose name she writes in the tome will die. She shrugs it off as a prank as the clip ends.

The Simpsons can be currently streamed on Disney+.
