AUSTRALIA. Victoria. Australia has seen a significant decline in new COVID-19 cases. The 16 new infections found on Monday are Australia’s smallest daily jump since June 14. The COVID-19 situation in Australia has been under control for more than three months. The positive result is due to the complete lockdown imposed by the Australian government.

The government is now planning to ease some lockdown measures. However, the authorities don’t want to hasten the ease of restrictions.

The COVID-19 impact across Australia

The Victoria state is the hotspot for COVID-19 infections in Australia. Daniel Andrews, premier of the Australian State of Victoria, had declared a complete lockdown due to COVID-19 in Victoria. However, some people have opposed the idea and labeled him a dictator. Nevertheless, Victoria came under complete control due to his efforts, which recorded just 11 new COVID-19 cases on Sunday.

The situation is very much under control now as compared to last month when the cases rose to 670 per day. Next week, the capital city of Melbourne will be lifting some restrictions. The decision will be implemented only if the cases remain below an average of 50 per day. However, the night curfew will remain until 26 October.

The number of cases throughout the rest of Australia has continued to trend down. New South Wales, which includes Sydney, has reported just four cases on Sunday. Queensland reported only one case on the same day.

Nightly curfews are among the safety measures clamped on the state of Victoria. However, state officials can reopen building sites, manufacturing plants, warehouses, and childcare centers on 28 September.

However, Australia is facing a major issue due to the lockdown. The country is now battling its first recession in 30 years. The unemployment rate in July hit a 22-year high as quarantine measures paralyzed businesses.
