AUSTRALIA: Australian Women Cricket team defeats the Indian Women Cricket team by 9 wickets to win the first ODI match of the 3 match ODI series of India’s tour of Australia. The match was played at Harrup Park, Mackay. In this ODI match, Australia Women won the toss and opted to bowl.
Shafali Verma and Smirti Mandhana were opening the batting for the Indian Women’s. The Indian Women’s team was off to a good start as Shafali and Smirti stitched up 31 runs partnership for the first wicket. After that Darcie Brown picked up 2 quick wickets to derail the Indian innings.
After the fall of 2 wickets, Yastika Bhatia and Mithali Raj stitched up a 77 runs partnership to resurrect the Indian innings. For the Australian Women’s team, Darcie Brown again picked up the crucial wicket of Yastika Bhatia to bring Australia back in the game. Yastika Bhatia played a good knock of 35 runs in which she scored 2 fours.

After the fall of Yastika Bhatia, the Indian team lost 2 quick wickets in the form of Deepti Sharma and Indian skipper Mithali Raj who scored a brilliant half-century. Mithali scored 63 off 107 deliveries which included 3 fours. After that Richa Ghosh and Jhulan Goswami scored some quick runs to help India register a good total. Richa Ghosh scored an unbeaten 32 off 29 deliveries which included 3 fours and 1 six while Jhulan Goswami scored 20 off 24 deliveries which included 1 four and 1 six.
For the Australian Women’s team, Darcie Brown picked up 4 wickets in her 9 overs spell whereas Sophie Molineux and Hannah Darlington picked up two wickets each.
Australia started their innings with a bang as both the openers Alyssa Healy and Rachael Haynes gave Australia a great start. Alyssa Healy was bashing the Indian bowlers all around the ground and she was equally supported by her opening partner Rachael Haynes. As a result, Australia scored 51 runs in the first powerplay.
Indian bowlers were clueless on how to stop these two. Alyssa Healy scored 77 runs off 77 deliveries which included 8 fours and 2 sixes. After Healy got out Australia was 126/1 after 21.2 overs. After the departure of Healy, Australian skipper Meg Lanning joined Rachael Haynes at the crease. Meg Lanning scored an unbeaten 53 off 69 deliveries which included 7 fours while Rachael Haynes scored 93 off 100 deliveries to help Australia win this first ODI match of this series.
For the Indian Women’s Team, Poonam Yadav took 1 wicket while all the other bowlers were wicketless.
