INDIA: Australian cricketer Pat Cummins has donated $50,000 to the PM CARES Fund of India. Cummins has shared a note on Twitter where he wrote about his contribution and urged others to do the same. The Australian speedster said that the donation was made to help Indian hospitals purchase oxygen supplies.
In the statement, he said, “As players, we are privileged to have the platform that allows us to reach millions of people that we can use for good. With that in mind, I have contributed to the PM CARES Fund, specifically to purchase oxygen supplies for Indian hospitals,” he stated.
About the ongoing discussion regarding the continuation of IPL matches, he said, “There has been a lot of discussions over here as to whether it is appropriate for the IPL to continue while COVID-19 infection rates remain high.”

Cummins further added that he is aware of the uncertainty of the future IPL matches amid the deadly second wave of COVID-19 in India. However, he said that ongoing IPL matches amid the lockdown have brought some respite from the gloom. Cummins is a part of the Kolkata Knight Riders’ squad for this IPL season
“I am advised that the Indian government is of the view that playing the IPL while the population is in lockdown provides few hours of joy and respite each day at an otherwise difficult time for the country,” Cummins said in his statement.
Currently, India is struggling to battle with the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. On Monday, the country reported over 3.53 lakh cases, the highest across the world.
