UNITED KINGDOM: Day 5 started with a steady partnership between Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane. But soon, Scott Boland dealt India a big blow by removing Kohli. Kohli attempted to drive at a little wide delivery but instead edged and was caught by Smith at second slip.

Kohli scored 49 runs in 78 deliveries, and this left India at 179/4. Australia lost a review earlier in the same over as Kohli played and missed an outside off delivery.

Ravindra Jadeja was a huge hope for Indian fans, but Boland shattered Indian hopes by dismissing him for a duck in the same over in which he took Kohli. Jadeja edged Boland’s delivery, and it was caught comfortably by Alex Carey.

Ajinkya Rahane, India’s first-inning hero, was looking good in the second inning too; he was displaying some good shots. But Rahane tried to play an ambitious drive off Mitchell Starc’s wide delivery and edged it.

Alex Carey was having a nice test match, and he welcomed another catch in his safe gloves. Rahane was dismissed for 46, and it was now impossible for the men in blue to win the test from here.

After such dominance, Australia looked to quickly finish things off. As expected, India began to lose wickets at a rapid pace. Soon Nathan Lyon spun the web and wrapped up things for Australia by removing Thakur, Bharat, and Siraj.

Siraj played a reverse sweep off Lyon’s delivery and was caught by Boland. As soon as the ball was caught, the Australian team was immersed in joy; they knew the job was done. Australia are now the World Test Champions. It’s a comprehensive win for Australia, as they won the game by a huge margin of 209 runs.

Boland took three important wickets in the second innings, and he was well supported by his partner, Lyon. None of the Indian batters were able to reach even the 50-run mark in the second inning, with Kohli being the highest scorer (49 runs).
