INDIA: In recent times, huge controversy has been triggered amid the release of Sudipto Sen’s directorial ‘The Kerala Story’. The movie claimed that girls from Kerala had gone missing and ended up joining the terrorist organisation ISIS.
Now, Assam Chief Minister Himanta Biswa Sarma appealed to the people of his state to watch the movie with the families, especially with the daughters. The CM recently watched the movie with his family and his fellow cabinet workers in Guwahati.
However, the movie is banned in West Bengal and Tamil Nadu for rage, triggering concern in the states. Now, Sarma opened up on the recent embargo.
He said, “I do not know what is happening in West Bengal, but banning the film will not serve any purpose. The film shows the conspiracy hatched against innocent girls, including those from the Muslim community. So, the decision to ban the film is, I think, wrong.” He further clarified that the movie exposed the “brutal designs of terrorist organisations in the name of religion.”
Moreover, the saffron party is supporting the movie in all possible ways. The UP CM Yogi Adityanath has made the film tax-free in his state. The film has been highly praised by the Bharatiya Janata Party and other right-wing outfits.
Besides, Prime Minister Narendra Modi also mentioned The Kerala Story at a rally in Karnataka. The PM stated that the movie should be watched by all because it rightly presented the consequences of terrorism in society.
PM Modi talked about the movie, The Kerala Story while addressing the masses. He said, “The film ‘The Kerala Story’ attempts to illustrate the societal implications of terrorism, particularly in a state like Kerala, which is a beautiful land of hardworking, talented, and educated people. The Congress party is now attempting to ban the film while also supporting terrorist elements.”
