Asian Games 2023 Day 11: Gold Glory for Neeraj Chopra, Silver Success for Kishore Kumar Jena

India won bronze in the mixed team final of the 35-kilometre race

CHINA: Day 11 of the Asian Games 2023 in Hangzhou saw India win the gold medal in the mixed composite team event in archery. In excellent form, Jyothi Surekha Vennam and Pravin Ojas Deotale helped India surpass their record medal total at the Asian Games. Their current total of 81 surpasses their prior high from Jakarta 2018 (70).

The current Asian Games saw India won bronze in the mixed team final of the 35-kilometre race walk as well. While Lovlina Borgohain, who lost the women’s 75 kg boxing final 0-5, took home the silver medal. Parveen accepted bronze after losing in the women’s 57kg boxing semifinal. Sunil Kumar then took home a bronze medal in the men’s 87-kg Greco-Roman wrestling. Atabek Azisbekov of Kyrgyzstan lost to him 2-1.

Harmilan Bains earned her second silver medal at the competition by placing second in the women’s 800 m finals with a time of 2:03.75. This week, she also took home a silver in the women’s 1500-meter race. 

With his second-place performance in the men’s 5000-meter final, Avinash Sable also added another silver to India’s collection. In the men’s 3000 m steeplechase, he had taken home a gold medal.

In a close race for gold, the Indian women’s 4x400m relay team fell short against Bahrain, earning silver. In the meantime, the 4x400m relay team for men took home gold. In the men’s javelin throw final, Neeraj Chopra and Kishore Kumar Jena took home gold and silver, respectively. Neeraj and Kishore both recorded their best throws at 88.88m and 87.54m. 

With their victory over Ka Yi Lee and Chi Him Wong of Hong Kong in the mixed doubles semifinal, India was guaranteed at least a silver medal by Dipika Pallikal and Harinder Pal Singh Sandhu.

Having lost to Malaysia’s Aifa Binti and Mohammad Syafiq in the second semifinal, Anahat Singh and Abhay Singh prevented an all-Indian squash mixed doubles final. They had to be content with bronze. In the semifinals of the men’s singles squash tournament, Saurav Ghosal defeated Leung C.H.H. of Hong Kong in straight games with an impressive performance.
