Asian Games 2023 Day 14: India Creates Historic Milestone as the Medal Count Exceeds 100

India as of today has 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze medals

CHINA: On the 14th day of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou on Saturday, India reached a total of 107 medals. After Jyothi Surekha and Ojas Pravin Deotale won the women’s and men’s compound individual competitions, respectively, India’s archery team took home two gold medals at the ongoing Asian Games. In the meantime, Abhishek Verma won silver and Aditi Gopichand won bronze in the individual archery compound event. 

Chinese Taipei was defeated by the women’s kabaddi team in the gold medal match with a scoreline of 26-25 at the Asian Games. Another gold medal was won by the men’s team as they overcame Iran in a contentious final.

Indian captain Pawan Kumar’s raid in the 39th minute created chaos all around and both the team’s coaches got into the decision-making process alongside the match officials. Finally, a decision was made in favour of the Indian team which helped them to overcome the Iranian team.

Chirag Shetty and Satwiksairaj Rankireddy won the mixed doubles final to secure a historic gold in badminton. They were up against the Koreans who put up a good fight but ultimately could not restrict the Indian pair from winning a gold medal at the end. The final scoreline was 21-18, 21-16 in favour of the Indian pair.

In the meantime, the men’s cricket team won gold after the first innings of their gold medal match versus Afghanistan was called off due to bad weather. Team India was awarded gold because they were a higher seed, and the rain didn’t stop.

The women’s hockey team won the bronze medal game against Japan by a score of 2-1. Indian female hockey team coach Janneke Schopman cried after the win as she appreciated the effort put on by the team.

In the 86 kg men’s freestyle division in wrestling, Deepak Punia won silver. Vicky and Sumit both failed to go past their respective categories. Later, India’s chess teams for men and women won silver medals to increase the medal tally which had already crossed the 100 mark.

India as of today has 28 gold, 38 silver and 41 bronze medals which is already much higher than their performance in Jakarta in 2018.
