CHINA: In the mixed doubles tennis final on Day 7 of the current Asian Games 2023, Rohan Bopanna and Rutuja Bhosale bagged gold. En-shuo and Tsung-hao Huang of Chinese Taipei were defeated by the Indian duo.
This achievement at the Asian Games gives India their second tennis medal following Ramkumar Ramanathan and Saketh Myneni’s silver in the Men’s Doubles.
India won their 10th gold medal at the Asian Games when the Indian men’s team defeated Pakistan in the men’s squash team competition. Saurav Ghosal, Abhay Singh, and Mahesh Mangaonkar won the men’s team squash competition by defeating Pakistan 2-1 in the championship match.
In the Mixed 10m Air Pistol, Sarabjot Singh and Divya Thadigol won the qualification round; however, they were defeated by China 14-16 in the final to settle for silver. In the men’s 10,000-meter final, Gulveer Singh and Kartik Kumar put up an outstanding performance, taking home the bronze and silver medals, respectively.
Sutirtha Mukherjee and Ayhika Mukherjee of India upset Chen Weng and Yidi Weng of China, ranked second in the world, 11-5, 11-5, 5-11, 11-9, to secure India a bronze medal in the women’s doubles table tennis quarterfinals. The men’s badminton team, on the other hand, defeated Korea 3-2 to go to the finals and guarantee themselves a silver medal.
In the sport of athletics, Jyothi Yarraji Nithya Ramraj and Murali Sreeshankar both advanced to the finals of their respective events—the women’s 100-meter hurdles and the men’s long jump. Aditi Ashok, meanwhile, finished the day in first place in the third individual round of the women’s golf tournament and is closing in on a medal.
In the third round of women’s team golf, India came out on top. By making it to the semifinals of their respective boxing divisions, Preeti and Lovlina Borgohain guaranteed India a medal. Pakistan was defeated 10-2 by the Indian men’s hockey team in the Pool A match.
