INDIA: Indian spinner Ravichandran Ashwin has claimed the top spot in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers, surpassing England’s James Anderson, who now trails by 10 rating points.
Ashwin’s remarkable performance in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy helped him secure the top position with a total of 25 wickets in the series, making him a consistent player for India in the Test format.
Former Indian captain Virat Kohli has also made significant progress in the Test rankings among batters, jumping seven spots to the 13th position.
Kohli’s outstanding performance in the drawn Ahmedabad Test against Australia, where he scored a magnificent 186 runs in the first innings, has ended his 1205-day drought without a Test ton.
Kohli’s remarkable performance in the series puts him closer to his teammates Rishabh Pant and Rohit Sharma, who hold the 9th and 10th positions on the Test batter rankings.
Axar Patel, who had a memorable series with the bat, moved up eight spots to the 44th position on the list for batters and secured the 4th spot overall on the list for all-rounders. He scored an impressive 264 runs over the four matches.
Ashwin and Jadeja were the main architects for India in the series. However, Jadeja dropped a spot from 8th to 9th in the Test bowlers’ rankings for some unknown reason.
The most recent rankings update saw promotions for Australian cricketers as well. Usman Khawaja, who opens for Australia, moved up two spots to take over 7th place in the Test batter rankings after scoring a series-high 333 runs.
All-rounder Cameron Green, who only played in the test against India in Ahmedabad, advanced 11 spots overall to take 26th place.
Ashwin’s top spot in the ICC Test rankings for bowlers and Kohli’s significant progress in the Test rankings for batters are well-deserved.
Their performances in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy have earned them recognition, and they continue to be vital players for the Indian team.
The rise of Axar Patel and the promotion of Australian cricketers in the latest rankings update add to the excitement and competition in the world of Test cricket.
