UNITED STATES: Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer out! DC has been on a long road of rough patches at the box office since the release of Black Adam. The leadership change at Warner Bros. with Henry Cavill re-joining the then-named DCEU and again announcing his exit from DCU on top of that comes Ezra Miller’s series of controversies, which have landed the whole cinematic universe in such a section that this whole set of events within WB and DC needs a movie of its own.
Aquaman 2 trailer high on visuals with DC’s history of box office debacle
Following The Flash’s box office failure and the release of the latest popcorn flick, Blue Beetle, DC has unveiled the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer. The news of its reported reshoot has raised a wave of scepticism, but being the one who lost interest in the DCU by looking at its latest releases, this information had zero impact.
It was set to go on the same track until the Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom trailer was released. Oh boy! Whether this DC sequel to the hit 2018 film will see box office success in the present scenario may be a topic of debate, but there is no doubt that it will be a visual treat.
Aquaman 2 has the master of horror, James Wan, in the director’s chair, which adds gravity to the fact that it would be high on directorial vision if the studio had not interfered with the story. The acting department marks the return of Jason Momoa as Arthur Curry/Aquaman, who is now the ruler of Atlantis. Along with Momoa, there are Patrick Wilson as Ocean Master, Yahya Abdul-Mateen II as Black Manta, Nicole Kidman as Atlana, Temuera Morrison as Tom Curry, and Amber Heard as Mera.
Black Manta on the path of vengeance
The trailer gives us a surface-level idea about the storyline of Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom. Black Manta has returned with more powers than ever before, and he is after Arthur and his family. Some trailer shots also confirm that Manta is in full vengeance mode and says, “I’m gonna kill Aquaman and destroy everything he holds dear. I’m gonna murder his family and burn his kingdom to ash.”
Compared to the first part, Arthur has gotten a full character upgrade, which is evident from the fact that he is married to Mera and they both had a baby. This means that our underwater hero is now a father and every hardcore comic book reader knows that the whole angle of Aquaman’s son and Manta attempting to kill him is directly taken from one of the darkest comic books, Aquaman: Death of a Prince.
However, the movie will not go in the darker path, but it is expected that Manta will kill someone close to Arthur. It may be his father, mother, or his wife.
Manta weilds Black Trident
There is also a mention in the trailer of an ancient relic, a Black Trident, that has been discovered by Manta, and this may be the reason that he has gotten powerful to such an extent that he wreaks havoc in the underwater world. We can get an idea of Manta’s power from the fact that Arthur needs the help of his brother, Ocean Master, to defeat the high-seas mercenary.
Aquaman and Ocean Master
Overall, the trailer for Aquaman and the Lost Kingdom appears to be a visual extravaganza with a decent storyline. If everything goes right, the film may break the DC drought at the box office. Well, to witness that, we have to wait for the featurette’s release on December 20.
