UNITED KINGDOM: Andretti Global and General Motors announced their partnership on Thursday in a bid to join the F1 grid in the upcoming years. Andretti Global and General Motors will explore FIA’s new expression of interest process.
Andretti has been trying to enter the F1 grid for a while
Andretti has repeatedly made it clear that they want to race in F1, but they were still waiting to receive approval from the FIA.
Michael Andretti, a former F1 driver and owner of Andretti Autosport, stated that the company joined forces with General Motors and would explore the FIA’s new procedure for adding a team to the grid.
Andretti stated to the media that Andretti Global’s desire to enter the F1 World Championship is well. He expressed his gratitude to the FIA and President Mohammed Ben Sulayem for their interest in an Expression of Interest procedure.
Andretti appreciated Sulayem’s openness to the process and willingness to be transparent.
General Motors President Mark Reuss confirmed that the team would operate under the name Andretti Cadillac and, if approved, would be based in the United States with a support facility in the United Kingdom.
According to Reuss, the announcement is the first step of what he hopes to be the historic entry of General Motors into F1. He stated that General Motors are excited about the collaboration with Andretti.
Andretti said that because they didn’t know how long the expression of interest process would take, there was no fixed date for the proposed team’s entry.
However, he said the team will be on track “as soon as it all makes sense to be on track.”
Reuss also said that they had a “signed agreement” with a supplier of power units but that they might try to do things themselves in the future.
Additionally, Andretti stated that Ben Sulayem’s eagerness gave him confidence that the bid would be successful.
