INDIA: In lieu of the recent by-poll debacle of the Samajwadi Party (SP)in Azamgarh and Rampur, SP Chief Akhilesh Yadav makes a tough decision of completely revamping the party structure. Azamgarh and Rampur are two strong holds on the party for decades.
Akhilesh Yadav announced that all the district, state and national executive bodies of the party stand dissolved. The decision also included various youth wings, women wings, spokesperson, and traders associations. The only exception to the decision was the post of the party’s state president Naresh Uttam Patel.
The announcement was made from the official Twitter handle of the party. The tweet said: “Samajwadi Party’s National President Akhilesh Yadav ji, except the President of the Uttar Pradesh unit of the party, has decided to dissolve all other units and frontal organisation including youth organizations, Mahila Sabha and all other cells, state presidents and district presidents and national. The state and district executives have been dissolved with immediate effect.”
Though no official reason has been given, the move is seen as an attempt to revamp the Samajwadi Party after the Lok Sabha by-poll fiasco in the party’s bastions Rampur and Azamgarh. It is being said that the senior members of the party are quite unhappy with the way Akhilesh Yadav has handled the by-polls. The allies and party workers have cited Yadav’s absence from the campaigns as the reason for the defeat.
A senior SP leader went on record saying, “We need to change our approach and we have already made the necessary beginning. We will fight the 2024 assembly polls with our new strategies in place and win the election.”
The party is also set to launch its state wide membership drive in the month of July and August. Moving on to September, a high-level meeting would be held with all senior leaders to appoint the new chiefs of the various executive bodies. All the 14 bodies of the party would get new secretaries, presidents and office-bearers.
As per the sources, the reformed committee would have leaders who have joined SP from other parties like Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) and Bhartiya Janta Party (BJP) during the 2022 assembly polls. They will handle the key responsibilities of revamping the party’s image.
All the party’s allies have been quite dissatisfied with the way Yadav had dealt with 2022 defeat. Om Prakash Rajbhar, Chief of Suheldev Bhartiye Samaj Party (SBSP) went on record on June 28 saying’ Akhilesh ji should have got out of A.C rooms if he wanted to defeat BJP.
