SWAZILAND. Mbabane: Africans have vowed to continue their solidarity to fight for democratic and legitimate rights with Swaziland in honor of Former President of People’s United Democratic Movement (PUDEMO) Mario Masuku who passed away earlier this week.
Masuku died at the age of 69 after succumbing to the complications of COVID-19.
PUDEMO members vow to maintain party ideology
On behalf of the National Executive Committee, PUDEMO Secretary General Wandile Dludlu said ” We have been robbed of a gallant fighter, a father, a leader, a stalwart, a combatant, a diplomat, a unifier and a servant of people”.
Dludlu also said the party will not betray his ideologies.
“Now that you have departed to the other side, the leadership collective of the departed is now complete. A full sitting can resume, and let us get a signal from you what next we must do”.
For even as your light seems to have died, it has been blown brighter and will continue to shine our way as we continue on the path towards our liberation. We dare not betray you”, said Dludlu.
ANC condolence message
In a statement, South African main political party the African National Congress (ANC) National Spokesperson Pule Mabe said Masuku worked with several organizations in and outside South Africa as part of his work to garner solidarity for the people of Swaziland.
“On the occasion of his death, the ANC dips its revolutionary banner in honor and will continue its solidarity with the people of Swaziland as they seek to find each other to live together with harmony by democratizing each other”.
Relations with the global village
Eswatini citizens described him as an internationalist who developed bilateral relations with different governments across the world to bring democracy to the country.
At one time in 2013, he led a multi-party delegation to Germany where he addressed the German Africa Parliamentary Group met with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, academics, and policymakers.
World Federation of Trade Unions Secretariat said the departure of Masuku left the people of Swaziland with a duty to continue to fight against the struggle.
“This sad development leaves the members of PUDEMO and people of Swaziland with a heavy legacy and a duty to carry on the struggle against the corrupt and totalitarian regime that deprives the people of its legitimate rights.
” We will honor the memory of Mario Masuku by continuing to extend our international solidarity to the workers and the people of Swaziland”.

Hindrance of freedoms in Swaziland
Swaziland is an African country under Monarchial Democracy where the natives adhere to the voice of the King.
The King is the voice of the nation, citizens are not allowed to speak their concerns, thus hindrance of freedom of expression.
PUDEMO is the main political party to stand strong against the totalitarian regime of Swaziland.
A Swaziland native, Senzo Dlamini told Transcontinental Times that the country has lost a vibrant leader who had Eswatini people at heart.
” He is one of the people Eswatini was looking up to for a better change and someone who was working for all and love all”.
“We also learned that being a leader has to come with making sacrifices and putting people first before, never be selfish but work and serve the people”, he said.
PUDEMO was formed in 1983 and Masuku became the first president of the party.
Masuku led the party for 32 years which earned him a title ‘Life President’.
