SOUTH AFRICA. Durban: African countries through the African Vaccine Acquisition Task Team(AVATT) will get 27 million vaccines from April to June.
Afrexim Bank will support African countries willing to access the vaccines. Avatt was established by South African president Cyril Ramaphosa in his capacity as chairperson of the African Union.

Pfizer, Johnson and Johnson, and AstraZeneca will supply the vaccines through the Serum Institute of India( STI) and an independent licensee. Afrexim bank will offer a guarantee of up to 2 billion dollars to the manufacturers on behalf of African countries.
A health expert, Dr. Aslam Dassoo from Progressive Health Forum confirmed that the vaccines will take time to arrive since they are being placed on order.
His sentiments are shared by professor Shabir Madhi a vaccinologist based at Witwatersrand University in South Africa.
