AFGHANISTAN. Kabul: COVID-19 Crisis in India sparked the sympathy of Afghans. Social media users across Afghanistan share grief and condolences with their Asian country’s long-term supporters, hoping for India’s victory over the third wave of Covid-19.
India had sent a shipment of 500,000 doses of vaccine to Afghanistan months ago to help the country in the battle with COVID-19.
“They helped us in a very difficult time. Now, that they are in deep trouble we call upon the Afghan government including the international community to send its humanitarian aid as soon as possible. Afghanistan stands with India,” a Twitter user, Kalimullah Ahmadi said.
Another Twitter user, Riaz Sediqi wrote, “Our prayers go to the people of India. Indeed, India has been a source of blessing to many nations in terms of health care, especially for Afghanistan. May Almighty Allah save all the Indian citizens and the whole world from this horrible virus.”
Afghan politicians send hopes and prayers
Some Afghan politicians, including President Ashraf Ghani, also sent messages to India expressing the hopes that they will soon dominate the crisis.“Our hearts go out to the Indian people and government as they fight the horrendous outbreak of COVID,” Ghani tweeted. “On behalf of the Afghan people and government, we send our condolences to the families who lost their loved ones and wish a quick recovery to those who are suffering from the virus.”
First Vice President Amrullah Saleh also shared his thoughts with the people of India, calling it a true friend of Afghanistan.
“Our thoughts and prayers are with India, a true friend and ally of Afghanistan as it passes through difficult times combating deadly COVID-19,” Saleh said. “Wishing all Indian people more resilience and fast victory over the pandemic. Jai Hind.”
“We are certain that India will come out of this crisis successfully with the collective efforts of its medical staff, people, and government,” Abdullah Abdullah, Chairman of the High Council for National Reconciliation said.
Afghans died of corona in India
The corona crisis in India also took lives from Afghans living there and affected the Afghan students. At least 30 Afghan nationals have lost their lives to COVID-19 in India, said the Afghan envoy in New Delhi, Farid Mamundzay.
35 Afghan students have also tested positive for COVID-19 in the last two weeks and one of them lost his life on April 21, according to Afghanistan’s embassy.
Mamundzay said that 15 Afghan Sikhs and Hindus, India-based Afghan migrants, and a student are among the victims. He called on Afghans to restrict unnecessary travel to India.
India’s coronavirus death toll reached 200,000 with another 2,771 fatalities reported on Tuesday.
