AFGHANISTAN. Kabul: On Tuesday, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani addressed an event on the launch of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign in the Afghan Presidential Palace. The inauguration ceremony of the first round of the COVID-19 vaccination campaign began in Kabul.
In a statement, Afghan President Ashraf Ghani said, “The first round of coronavirus vaccination will begin with 500,000 doses. The officials are ordered to distribute them fairly,” adding that the efforts are underway to cover 40 percent of the population in the second round.
In the inauguration ceremony, President Ghani said that in the early days of the coronavirus epidemic, there was no food available but today we have the COVID-19 vaccine because of the government’s commitment to serving the people.
India’s support to Afghanistan
India had sent 500,000 COVID-19 vaccines to Afghanistan earlier this month. Afghan President Ghani lauded India for their support, saying, “India is not only the world’s largest democracy but also the largest producer of the vaccine.”
The vaccination campaign in Afghanistan has begun with Indian-made vaccines amid the COVID-19 outbreak. According to Wahid Majroo, the Acting Minister for Afghanistan Public Health Ministry, the first people to be vaccinated in Afghanistan are Afghan Health care workers and members of the Afghan Armed forces.
Journalist Anisa Shaheed from TOLO News was the first to receive a dose, followed by a doctor and two members of the Afghan security forces.

Meanwhile, President Ghani said that Afghanistan has moderated the COVID-19 well while it stuck the whole world. He also added that his government has controlled the first and second waves of the virus very well.
President Ghani has called the health workers “Hero” and promised to build a memorial statue for the health workers who devoted their lives in the frontline of COVID-19.
Till now, Afghanistan has recorded over 55 thousand cases of COVID-19 and more than two thousand people have died from the virus.
