INDIA. The Bombay High Court has granted bail to Bollywood actress Rhea Chakraborty today. As her previous bail applications were rejected, this decision comes as a huge relief for the actress.
The actress has been named in alleged drugs case related to the late Bollywood actor Sushant Singh Rajput. Meanwhile, the court has denied bail to Rhea’s brother Showik Chakraborty and alleged drug peddler Abdel Basit Parihar. On the other hand, the court granted bail to Sushant’s house staff Dipesh Sawant and Samuel Miranda.
Chakraborty’s involvement in drugs dealing and Sushant Singh’s Rajput’s case
According to reports, Chakraborty has been granted bail on a personal bond of Rupees 1 lakh ($1,363). However, the court has ordered Rhea to mark her presence at the nearest police station for 10 days after her release. Rhea also has to hand over her passport to the investigating agency and she cannot leave India without the court’s permission.
“We are delighted by the court’s order. Truth and Justice have finally prevailed,” said Rhea Chakraborty’s lawyer Satish Maneshinde.
Rhea’s lawyer accused the agencies of a ‘Witch-hunt’. “The arrest and custody of Rhea was unwarranted. The hounding and witch-hunt by three central agencies, the CBI, Enforcement Directorate and the Narcotics Control Bureau must end now,” said Maneshinde.
Previously, the Narcotics Control Bureau had arrested actress Rhea Chakraborty on September 8.
The NCB seeking to reject Rhea’s bail plea told the Bombay HC that Rhea had bought and concealed drugs for Sushant Singh Rajput. The NCB also called the siblings active members of a drug syndicate connected with high society personalities and drug suppliers.
Rhea alleged that Sushant Singh Rajput used her and brother Showik Chakraborty to procure drugs for him. She mentioned in her plea that Sushant used to consume drugs. Rhea also claimed that Sushant used people around him to arrange drugs.
Currently, the CBI is separately probing late actor Sushant Singh Rajput’s death case.
