INDIA. Mumbai: In response to a contentious tweet he posted in 2020, actor and self-described film critic Kamaal R Khan was detained by Malad Police. He is referred to as KRK and was detained after arriving at Mumbai Airport. He will appear before Borivali Court today.

Kamaal R Khan frequently gets into problems for his tweets and blatant jabs at Bollywood movies and actors. For two years, police searched Mumbai for Kamaal, but he was nowhere to be found. KRK was arrested on August 29 as soon as he arrived at the airport. At Malad Police Station, a complaint was made against Kamaal R Khan.

Rahul Kanal, the leader of the Shiv Sena, filed a case against Kamaal in 2020 after KRK sent an offensive tweet about the late star Rishi Kapoor being hospitalised.

Since KRK was not in the country at the time, a notice was issued against him and the police picked him up as soon as they were alerted by the immigration authorities that he had landed in Mumbai.

In his statement to the police, Kanal alleged that KRK was making unsavory statements about some Bollywood actors that could spread hatred between communities.

“We have booked KRK under section 294 (punishment for obscene acts or words in public) and other provisions of the IPC based on a complaint for making derogatory remarks about the two deceased actors,” said a police officer from Malad police station.

PTI claims that he had previously been the subject of a lookout notice. According to him, an FIR has also filed against him in 2020 under the Information Technology Act’s provisions as well as sections of the Indian Penal Code 153 (wantonly inciting unrest) and 500 (punishment for defamation).

Salman Khan also requested in a court filing in Mumbai in June 2021 that Kamaal R Khan face contempt charges for continuing to utter disparaging statements despite having promised not to.

The application was made as part of a defamation lawsuit filed by Salman to stop KRK from making or uploading any videos or other content that directly or indirectly disparages the actor, his business endeavours, or his films or other undertakings.

Salman had sued Kamaal R Khan for defamation due to the latter’s assessment of the recently released Hindi movie “Radhe.”
