INDIA: Deep Sidhu, a Punjabi actor, died on Tuesday, February 15, while being treated for injuries sustained in a car accident. A woman in the car with him is being treated and is no longer in danger, according to Superintendent of Police (SP) Sonipat, Rahul Sharma.
Surjeet Sidhu, Deep Sidhu’s brother, filed a complaint with Sonipat Police, who filed an FIR against a truck driver who, according to the complaint, applied breaks suddenly, resulting in the accident last night at Kundli-Manesar-Palwal (KMP).
An FIR has been filed against the truck driver under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 304A (causing death through negligence).
Speaking to the media on Wednesday, SP Rahul Sharma stated, “We learned that two people were taken to the hospital following a car accident. Deep Sidhu, the man, died during treatment, and the woman is currently undergoing treatment and is no longer in danger.”
He went on to say that for the time being, the woman’s identity cannot be revealed because permissions are required. According to Sharma, they were on their way to Bathinda based on the investigation so far. However, as per the reports, the female friend was Reena Rai, a US-based actress, and the deceased actor’s co-star.
Deep Sidhu was released on bail in January of last year in the Republic Day violence case. He was released on bail in April. Sidhu was arrested by Delhi Police in February of last year in connection with a case of Republic Day violence in 2021.
On Republic Day, a tractor rally by farmers turned violent after protesters gathered at the Red Fort. Farmers were protesting three farm laws that had since been repealed.
According to the FIR filed by Delhi Police on January 26, 2021, Deep Sidhu “instigated the mob not to follow the permitted route of the Kisan parade and breach barricades with tractors.” In the meantime, Punjab Chief Minister Charanjit Singh Channi expressed his condolences on the death.
“Deeply saddened to learn about the unfortunate demise of renowned actor and social activist, Deep Sidhu. My thoughts and prayers are with the bereaved family and fans,” the Chief Minister tweeted.
