AFGHANISTAN: Thousands of Afghans trying to flee the country returned to the Kabul airport a day after the devastating twin blasts outside the airport. A social media video footage showed several Afghan men and women trying to get past the airport gates in hopes of getting on an evacuation flight. Fleeing Afghans were seen standing in filthy sewage water for hours outside the Hamid Karzai International airport.
According to the reports, the evacuation flights that were abandoned after the suicide bombings have resumed with new urgency on Friday.
Meanwhile, The US has said that further attempted attacks are expected ahead of the August 31 deadline for foreign troops to leave, ending America’s longest war.
As per the reports, several flights took off Friday morning. Videos shared by a Tolo TV correspondent showed the anxious crowd outside the airport waiting in the same numbers as before the blasts.
Two consecutive suicide blasts affiliated to the Islamic State (IS) left more than 100 people dead. 13 US soldiers that were deployed at the Kabul airport were also killed on Thursday night.
Witnesses described the horrific scenes outside the airport saying they saw body parts flying in the air like tornados and it seemed like doomsday. Videos shot by Afghan journalists showed dozens of bodies strewn around a canal on the edge of the airport in Kabul.

Hours after the blast, the crowds were seen getting back to the airport gates trying to flee the war-torn nation that fell to the Taliban on August 15.
Concerns have been raised by nations on the safety of the evacuation exercise at the Kabul airport since the blasts.
In an open statement, IS claimed that one of its suicide bombers targeted “translators and collaborators with the American army”.
