INDIA. Uttarakhand: Ankita Bhandari, a 19-year-old receptionist who was killed in Uttarakhand reportedly by her employer, drowned and suffocated to death, according to a preliminary post-mortem report released on Saturday.

Ankita’s body was transported to the Base hospital in Srinagar following the conclusion of the post-mortem at AIIMS Rishikesh. According to officials, the family will receive her mortal remains and final rites were to be performed today.

Five days after going missing, Ankita’s body was found in the Chilla canal near Rishikesh on September 24. The 19-year-old girl, who was employed as a receptionist at a resort in Uttarakhand, has sparked outrage across the nation.

Pulkit Arya, the proprietor of the Vanantra resort and the main suspect in the case, was detained by the state police on Friday. He is Vinod Arya’s son, a former BJP minister.

After confessing to pushing the woman into a canal following an incident, Pulkit, the resort manager Saurabh Bhaskar, and assistant manager Ankit Gupta were all charged with murder. He was given a 14-day judicial detention order on Friday by a judge.

The family refused to carry out the last rites.

Ankita’s father and brother declined to conduct her final rituals until they received the official postmortem report.

“We will not cremate my daughter’s lifeless body till the Special Investigative Team do not give their report as well as the forensic report of the autopsy,” Ankita Bhandari’s father Virendra Singh Bhandari stated on Sunday.

The report they were provided is minimal and lacks all the forensic specifics, according to Singh. “We intend to keep the body so we can perform another autopsy. That is if we believe that the initial autopsy was falsified or altered,” Singh said.

They also spoke out against the resort’s demolition project, where she was a receptionist. Ajay speculated that there might be an attempt to obliterate evidence.

Murdered for denying ‘special favours’ to guests?

Ashok Kumar, the DGP for Uttarakhand, claimed on Saturday that the resort’s owner was pressuring Ankita Bhandari to offer “special services” to the visitors. The girl’s WhatsApp exchange with a pal revealed the same information.

Locals are demonstrating outside the resort and calling for the perpetrators to be put to death as a result of the murder’s widespread indignation.

The girl worked as a receptionist at the Vanantra resort, which the authorities began tearing down on Friday under the pretext that it was constructed “illegally.” After Arya’s arrest, CM Dhami ordered the destruction.

The creation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to look into the murder case has been mandated by the chief minister, Pushkar Singh Dhami. Following the arrest of Vinod Arya’s son in the matter, the BJP also acted and dismissed Vinod Arya from the organisation.
