INDIA. Tamil Nadu: Tamil Nadu’s former chief minister, J Jayalalithaa’s death case is under scrutiny, doubting foul play. Justice A Arumughaswamy commission investigated the matter.
The MK Stalin-led Tamil Nadu Cabinet will discuss the inquisition report after five years of the former leader’s demise. The former high court judge handed over the detailed report to Chief Minister M K Stalin.
Jayalalithaa was an actress-turned-politician who ruled over Tamil Nadu by serving as a chief minister for six consecutive years. She was admitted to Apollo hospital undergoing treatment, and doctors treated her with the best possible treatments, but following that, her death is still a mystery.
The AIADMK commission examined their general secretary’s demise by submitting a 590-page report and examining more than 158 witnesses on August 27. The witnesses were brought before the panel, including AIADMK coordinator O Panneerselvam, doctors looking into the case, Jayalalithaa’s niece Deepa and nephew Deepak, top officials and AIADMK’s C Vijayabaskar, M Thambi Durai, C Ponnaiyan and Manoj Pandian.
The medical experts from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences came to the conclusion that Jayalalithaa received treatment at the Apollo Hospital in accordance with her health status, that she received the appropriate supervision and medication, and that there were no suspected loopholes.
According to Justice A Arumughaswamy, “The report has two parts: the first is prior to former CM J Jayalalithaa’s hospitalisation (before September 22, 2016), and the second is subsequent to her hospitalisation.”
“A few people said that I (Arumughaswamy) had slowed down the investigation. We started the investigation and questioned 149 people within 12 months.”
Observing the report submitted by the Apollo hospital, the justice said, “158 witnesses and petitioners were examined. Some people said that I dragged the probe. It’s up to the government to decide whether the probe report will be released. Apollo Hospital and Sasikala have cooperated well in the investigation.”
