INDIA: The Birbhum unit president of TMC, Anubrata Mondal booked by C.B.I. in connection with the cattle smuggling case. Recently, Rajesh Chakraborty, the judge of the special C.B.I. court in Asansol, who is hearing the case, received a threatening letter seeking an immediate release of the party head.
The letter says, “You are hereby requested to release bail of … Anubrata Mondal immediately. Otherwise, your family will face N.D.P.S. (Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) case commercial quantity. This is for your information.”
Meanwhile, Anubrata Mondal states that he is against the iniquitous action, so he requested a C.B.I. probe into the following matter, “I would request the judge to order a C.B.I. probe into the threats he has received.” On the other hand, a letter has surfaced over Twitter by B.J.P. Amit Malviya, according to which Chakraborty has put pen to paper addressing the Paschim Bardhaman district judge, delineating the threat message he received. He highlighted that his family members would be dragged into false cases under the Narcotics Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act if he did not vouchsafe bail to Anubrata Mondal.
The judge writes, “With great anxiety, I do hereby forward to you a letter by one Bappa Chatterjee being addressed to the officer-in-charge of this court threatening that if Anubrata Mondal is not released, my family members would be implicated in the N.D.P.S. (Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances) Act case with commercial quantity.”
The alleged letter is brought into existence by the name of Bappa Chatterjee, a head clerk in the office of East Burdwan’s executive magistrate. However, he denied the charges against him and called them forged. According to him, the signature in the letter and the government stamp are contorted. In a media interview, he said, “I have no clue about it (threat letter). I came to know about it through the media. I suspect someone used my name to accuse me.”
Anubrata Mondal’s cattle smuggling case:
The B.S.F. seized more than 20,000 cattle heads during the ongoing smuggling process. The cattle were smuggled across the border between 2015 and 2017. An F.I.R. was registered in the case, and Mondal’s name popped up during interrogation. Anubrata Mondal’s bodyguard, Saigal Hossain, has also been arrested by the C.B.I. regarding the case.
