UNITED STATES: Recently, Facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg uploaded a metaverse selfie from Paris that drew a lot of criticism online. The visual quality of the virtual environment that Zuckerberg has already spent billions constructing has sparked complaints on Twitter, according to reports.
On his Facebook page, the CEO of Meta recently published a metaverse selfie. “We’re launching Horizon Worlds in France and Spain today,” he said in the description. “I’m looking forward to spreading this to additional nations soon and watching people create and explore immersive worlds,” he added.
Users troll the metaverse selfie
His metaverse avatar can be seen in the picture with his arm extended, appearing to be taking a selfie with the Eiffel Tower. Despite having 105,000 Facebook likes, the selfie garnered some negative feedback on Twitter.
“Meta’s metaverse ruse is undoubtedly going away in the night. So far as I can tell, the Metaverse is basically Animal Crossing. But you’re being pursued by Mark Zuckerberg,” a Twitter user said in jest.
While another user commented, “Why is the animation in Zuckerberg’s metaverse worse than on the Wii in 2006?”
Zuckerberg’s legless avatar has drawn criticism for having an eerie, dead-eyed appearance. Meta has already invested billions in the metaverse and intends to do so in the future. In the past, Zuckerberg has acknowledged that his metaverse project will experience “substantial” financial losses for the next three to five years.
According to the reports, he reportedly told shareholders, “We want to get the hardware to be as accessible as possible for everyone and make sure the digital economy flourishes.”
This indicates that the CEO intends to invest a sizable sum in the metaverse without expecting to see much in return at first. He predicts that in the next 10 to 15 years, many people will be living in his virtual reality, spending money and going about their daily lives.
The founder of Facebook wants the metaverse to be so fantastic that you won’t want to leave, and he has enormous plans for it. “A lot of people assume that the metaverse is about a place, but one description of this is that it’s about a period when basically immersive virtual worlds become the main way that we live our lives and spend our time,” said Zuckerberg in a recent interview with tech podcaster Lex Fridman. “I think that’s a legitimate construct,” he continued.
