INDIA: On the occasion of India’s 75th anniversary of independence, governments and leaders from around the world sent their best wishes to the world’s largest democracy.
Australian Prime Minister Anthony Albanese recalled Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru’s call for his people to join in the adventure of their new independence with confidence. He praised India’s “remarkable” achievements while also recalling “fond memories” from his travels across the country.
According to Albanese, as Comprehensive Strategic Partners, India and Australia are committed to expanding bilateral cooperation. He stated that the economic and trade ties between the two countries would “further support opportunities for mutual growth and prosperity” this year.
He said, “All Australians applaud India’s successes and the many achievements that define this great country and its people”.
The Australian PM said, “On the first Independence Day in 1947, when Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru called for his people to join with confidence in the adventure of their new independence, the world could not have imagined how profoundly India would heed his call.”
“The emergence of the world’s largest democracy and the achievements made by independent India have been remarkable,” he added.
Meanwhile, the wishes of Singapore’s government were conveyed by the country’s embassy in India.
Singapore’s mission in India tweeted, “Wishing India a wonderful 76th Independence Day! Many remarkable achievements to be proud of by our dearest friends from the world’s largest democracy.”
In its message of congratulations on India’s 75th anniversary, Russia also referred to India as a “trusted partner.”
Denis Alpov, the Russian Ambassador to India, expressed his “warmest congratulations” to the Indian people.
He stated, “Russia, as a trusted friend, wishes India all the best on her path of progress for the benefit and prosperity of the Indian people. Jai Rus! Jai Hind!”
Meanwhile, in a message in Hindi, British High Commissioner to India Alex Ellis wished India a “Happy 75th Independence Day.”
US congratulated India on Independence Day
US President Joe Biden congratulated New Delhi and called it an “indispensable” partner. In a statement, Biden stated that India and the United States would continue to collaborate to address global challenges in the coming years.
The US President also referred to Mahatma Gandhi’s “enduring message of truth and nonviolence” as India celebrated the 75th anniversary of the end of British colonial rule in 1947.
“As people around the world, including nearly four million proud Indian-Americans, celebrate India’s 75th anniversary of independence on August 15, the United States joins the people of India in honouring its democratic journey, guided by Mahatma Gandhi’s enduring message of truth and nonviolence,” Biden said.
“India and the United States are indispensable partners, and the U.S.-India Strategic Partnership is grounded in our shared commitment to the rule of law and the promotion of human freedom and dignity…I am confident that in the years ahead our two democracies will continue to stand together to defend the rules-based order; foster greater peace, prosperity and security for our people; advance a free and open Indo-Pacific, and together address the challenges we face around the world,” he added.
