CHINA/UNITED STATES: A consistent and long-time supporter of the Russian cause, China, has explicitly expressed its disdain towards the US for being the “main instigator” of the Ukraine crisis.
As per a Reuters report, the Chinese ambassador to Moscow, Zhang Hanhui, harshly criticized the major superpower and accused it of alienating Russia from the global spectrum by imposing NATO defence alliance expansions and support for forces working to align Ukraine with the European Union rather than Russia.
Hanhui posed such allegations in an interview with the Russian state news agency TASS that was released on Wednesday. He also accused Nancy Pelosi of destabilizing the political dynamics between Taiwan and China, after meeting with Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen in Taipei last week, confirming support for the island nation, which China has claimed to be part of its mainland for years.
Zhang was quoted saying in the interview, “As the initiator and main instigator of the Ukrainian crisis, Washington, while imposing unprecedented comprehensive sanctions on Russia, continues to supply arms and military equipment to Ukraine.”
He also added, “Their ultimate goal is to exhaust and crush Russia with a protracted war and the cudgel of sanctions.”
According to Zhang, the policy of non-interference is the sole way to achieve peace and prosperity between two warring factions. It is ironic to note that Zhang applied the logic to the US Intervention in the China-Taiwan crisis, but refused to do the same in Russia’s invasion or rather “special military operation” in Ukraine.
Furthermore, he criticized Nancy Pelosi, the US Speaker of House of Representatives for her visit to the self-governing island nation of Taiwan last week, which China claims as its own, and contended that the US was applying the same strategies in Taiwan and Ukraine to “revive a Cold War mentality, contain China and Russia, and provoke major power rivalry and confrontation.”
