The Indian holiday of Raksha Bandhan will be observed on August 11 in 2022. Shravan Purnima will also be observed on this date and will begin at 10.38 am August 11 and terminate at 7.05 am on August 12 according to Drik Panchang (Hindu Calendar).

The Hindu calendar states that Bhadra is a bad time and should be avoided for all auspicious activity, hence Raksha Bandhan ceremonies should not be held during this period. The majority of Hindu holy literature, including Vratraj, advise against tying Rakhi around Bhadra time on Raksha Bandhan.

History Of Raksha Bandhan

According to Hindu mythology, Lord Krishna cut his finger on his Sudarshan Chakra by accident during the Mahabharata. To stop the blood from his finger from oozing out, Princess Draupadi tore a piece of fabric from her saree. This gesture overwhelmed Lord Krishna, who viewed it as a sacred thread.

Lord Krishna pledged to defend Draupadi at all costs after that day. When the Kauravas attempted to humiliate Draupadi in the Mahabharata, Lord Krishna intervened and defended her from the hostile faction.

Importance Of Raksha Bandhan

The sister prays for her brother’s happiness, health, and longevity as she places a tilak on his forehead and ties a Rakhi around his wrist on Raksha Bandhan. In exchange, the brother promises to take good care of and stand for his sister throughout her entire life.

Notably, as society has changed, the significance of Raksha Bandhan has also altered; now, rather than the brother safeguarding his sister, his support in crucial choices affecting the sister’s life is much valued.
