INDIA: Customers can now make purchases directly from Instagram chats, also known as Direct Messages (DMs). The announcement was made in a blog post by the company. The feature would be supported by a small number of qualified firms, according to the Meta-owned platform. Once an order has been placed, the user can pay for it, track it, and perform other functions from the same chat thread.

“Every week, one billion users of our family of apps message businesses, whether to chat with them, browse items, get help, or participate in news.” The company’s blog post aims to “help consumers start conversations with businesses they care about and help them locate and buy things they love in an easy, seamless experience, directly from the chat thread.”

Although Instagram adds that it will grant access to different businesses when this function is further carried out, it is unclear how many firms will be permitted to use the tool. The ability to make payments in conversations will also be made available to more users.

The functionality would enable business owners to speak with customers in real-time to address inquiries and confirm order details. Along with asking for and receiving money, it will also allow the company to make a payment request with an item description and pricing.

The launch of the new feature coincides with Meta’s official rebranding of Facebook Pay to Meta Pay earlier this month. Facebook Pay capabilities are now available, and the general user interface will remain consistent across Facebook, Instagram, WhatsApp, and Messenger.

Although the service will remain the same, Zuckerberg stated at the time of the redesign that the rebranding is the first step for Meta toward developing a digital wallet for the metaverse. According to him, a digital wallet in the metaverse will allow people to keep their identities, possessions, and payment methods secure.
