INDIA.NAGPUR: Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, expressed promising beliefs in green energy, claiming that the environment-friendly resources of hydrogen, ethanol and other green fuels will end the country’s need for the use of petrol in vehicles after 5 years.
He made the statement on Thursday in Maharashtra’s Akola where he was conferred an honorary degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) by Dr Panjabrao Deshmukh, Krishi Vidyapeeth.
He said, “With full faith, I want to say that petrol will vanish from the country after five years.Your cars and scooters will either be on green hydrogen, ethanol flex-fuel, CNG or LNG.”
Gadkari also expressed confidence in Maharashtra’s farmers, calling them talented, while stressing the need to provide them with vocational training and technological know-how.
He also appealed to agricultural researchers and experts to work on eco-friendly strategies to boost the agricultural yield from 12% to 20% in the next five years.
On the green front, even the Chattisgarh government has made reformations in policies, especially its EV Policy for 2022, and allowed for the production of electric vehicles in the state.
In the wake of gas shortages faced by Russia, one of the largest exporters of non-renewable resources, with Germany gearing to reactivate its coal plants to sustain the economy, Gadkari’s claim comes at a crucial time when the world has begun to confront a future without petrol and coal.
The time is now to make long-term, sustainable reformations in policies and economies to embark upon a cleaner, greener and healthier environment.
