Gunmen Kidnap 22 Farmers in Abuja Community

The kidnappers are reportedly demanding N12 million ransom from the families of the victims

NIGERIA. Abuja: According to reports, 22 farmers have been kidnapped in Rafin-Daji, a neighbourhood in Abuja’s Federal Capital Territory’s Gurdi ward of the Abaji Area Council (FCT).

According to Assistant Superintendent of Police (ASP) Oduniyi Omotayo, who confirmed the incident, the farmers were working on their farmland when armed men, who outnumbered them, kidnapped them. The kidnappers are reportedly demanding N12 million ransom from the families of the victims.

Following the dissemination of the information, a team of police officers from various tactical and intelligence units of the Command, Destiny Hunters, Vigilantes, and local hunters rushed to the forest and actively searched for the victims’ rescue. “The monitoring and surveillance of the community is also continuing,” Omotayo has said.

An eyewitness reported that two females and 13 family members were working on separate farms when the bandits invaded the area and abducted the workers.

Ismaila Barde, Mustapha Barde, Hussaini Abdullahi, Nasiru Barde, Abdulkarim Barde, Sanusi Barde, Usman Barde, Nura Barde, Abdullahi Barde, Babawo Barde, Farida Ayuba, and Hauwa Ayuba are the names of the afflicted people according to the eyewitness.

Omotayo, however, asked the populace to go about their regular, lawful activities without being concerned about molestation or harassment of any kind or from any source.

Additionally, he recommended them to use the Public Complaint Bureau line, an avenue for reporting or praising the police, to report any suspicions by calling the following numbers: 0803 2003913, 08061581938, 07057337653, and 08028940883.
