UNITED STATES: Singer Justin Bieber took to social media to report that he has been diagnosed with Ramsay Hunt Syndrome, which has paralysed the right side of his face. He also demonstrated to followers that, as a result, he could not blink or grin on the right side. Justin added that this was why the ‘Justice World Tour’ was put on hold.
Ramsay Hunt Syndrome is a complication of shingles that causes an acute peripheral facial neuropathy. It causes facial paralysis and hearing loss.
The artist posted a video to his Instagram account on Friday evening. He explained, “I have this syndrome called Ramsay Hunt syndrome and it is from this virus that attacks the nerves in my ear and my facial nerves and has caused my face to have paralysis. As you can see, this eye is not blinking, I can’t smile on this side of my face, this nostril will not move.”
He went on to add, “So, there’s full paralysis on this side of my face. So for those who are frustrated by my cancellations of the next shows, I’m just physically, obviously, not capable of doing them. This is pretty serious, as you can see.”
Justin explained in an IG video that he has been practising facial exercises and that he will need time to ‘rest and relax’ before returning.
‘Justin Bieber’s Justice World Tour‘ was previously postponed when he and his wife Hailey Bieber were found to be positive for COVID-19. The pandemic was also to blame for earlier cancellations. Justin was supposed to play in New Delhi as part of this tour, but fans will have to wait.
Hailey Bieber had a significant health scare earlier this year when she suffered a stroke due to a blood clot in her brain. She’d also posted a video explaining what had occurred. Haley later verified that she had recovered from the incident.
