INDIA. MUMBAI: As part of the nationwide campaign “Puneet Sagar Abhiyan” to clean seashores/beaches and other water bodies, over 16,000 cadets of the NCC Group, Nagpur, participated in the campaign and cleaned water bodies in different districts of the Vidarbha region of Maharashtra on Friday.
The cadets participated in the campaign to clean lakes, rivers, and other water bodies in Nagpur city and adjoining areas, including Katol, Narkhed, Bhiwapur, and Saoner. Besides, the campaign was conducted in Chandrapur city and Brahmapuri town, and some parts of the Gadchiroli district. They collectively collected plastic and other waste material, positively impacting over ten lakhs people in the region, Wing Commander Ratnakar Singh said.
At Nagpur, the cadets of various schools and colleges cleaned many water bodies, including the Futala and Ambazari lakes and Kanhan rivers. The campaign aimed at preserving the local surroundings and environment for future generations by keeping it clean and healthy.
In keeping with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s vision, the campaign was conducted last December. Over 3.9 lakh cadets from 127 coastal area NCC units participated and collected almost 19 tonnes of plastic garbage. Given its success, now the campaign is being taken up as a continuous activity by all NCC units throughout the year.
The “Puneet Sagar Abhiyan 2022” was conducted wonderfully in the first week of the current month, coinciding with the National Maritime Day. Over 1.5 lakh cadets from all 17 State Directorates of the NCC participated in various activities, positively impacting a population of approximately 50 lakh.
In another development, the children of Army Pre-Primary School and Army School, Military Station Pulgaon (Wardha), celebrated the “EarthDay” with tree plantation and spread awareness on the need to conserve natural resources on Friday. The children, teachers, and staff enthusiastically participated in the “EarthDay” celebrations.
